Faith in Lord Nityananda

All glories to Swami Gaurangapada! All glories to Srilla Prabhupada!

In Caitanya Bhagavata, Supreme Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu explains:

prabhu bale-eha nityananda svarupere

se karaye bhakti-sraddha se kare amare

"One who has faith and devotion for Lord Nityananda has faith and devotion for Me(Lord Caitanya) also." (C.Bhag. Madhya 12.55)

This is very important verse for us to understand. Actually whole process of attaining perfection in devotional service is summarized within this instruction. Perfection of life is unconditional devotional service to Supreme Lord, Sri Krsna, who manifest Himself in unlimited transcendental forms and eternally enjoys with His eternal consort Srimati Radharani. In this age of Kali, this highest perfection can be attain only by chanting Lord's Holy Names and no other process can elevate jiva to platform of understanding and real service to the lotus feat of Sri Sri Radha-Krsna in Vrindavan. Srilla Bhaktisidhantha Sarasvati Thakura summarized whole truths in verse - sri krsna caitanya radha krsna nahe anya - that Lord Sri Krsna Caitanya is non different from Sri Sri Radha Krsna. Here, that same Lord Gauranga is giving us direction how we can really satisfy Him and develop real faith. bhakti sraddha. If we have faith and devotion to Lord Nityananda then immediately we will have faith to Lord Caitanya and in the same time to Radha and Krsna. That is whole process. Heno nitai bine bhai radha krsna paite nai. Only by worshiping Lord Nityananda by constantly chanting His Name, we can attain shelter of Radha Krsna, or Lord Gauranga. This is sum and substance of all vedic knowledge.

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna
All glories to Swami Gaurangapada! All glories to Srilla Prabhupada!

Every
conditioned soul within this material world is struggle very hard to
find happiness. Intelligent person understands that real joy and bliss
can be found only on spiritual level, but we can practically see that
almost nobody really knows the way how to cross over the ocean of
material existence. Path of jnana or mystical yoga can elevate person
to heavenly planets or person can attain impersonal liberation, but yet
such persons can not cross over this material plan, so what to say
about mundane persons who are bounded with sence gratification and mind
speculations. In Chaitanya Bhagavata we can find divine recipe for that
problem:

samsarera para hai' bhaktira sagare
ye dubile se bhajuk nitai-candere

"One
who would cross over the ocean of material existence and swim in the
bhakti ocean should worship the lotus feet of Nityananda." (C.Bhag. Adi
1.77)

If we want to cross over the ocean of material existence,
to transcendent samsara, eternal circle of brth and death, we should
worship Lord Nityananda. If we simply accept this fact and therefore
chant and cry out His Holy Name we will soon be placed in highest
position - bhakti sagara or ocean of devotional service. In
bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu it is described that impersonal liberation can
not be compeered with one drop of unlimited ocean of bhakti. It is
special mercy of Lord Nityananda Prabhu, that simply by accepting His
Holy Name conditioned jiva immediately transcendent all other paths and
stages of different processes and become placed into the ocean of
bhakti.

Bhishma Panchaka Vow

=34

Nityananda! Gauranga! HareKrishna! A five-day worship period prescribed for the last 5 days of Kartika (Damodara) Month and it is known as “Bhishma Panchaka”. Lord Krishna becamse very pleased on Shrila Bhishma and He agreed to give His pure love to those fortunate souls who chant, sing, hear, read, worship and fast for these five days of Bhishmadeva.

Along with chanting, singing hearing and reading the Holy Names and Pastimes, devotees may offer the following to the Deity form of the Lord:

On the first day, one must offer padma (lotus) flowers to the feet of the Lord On the second day, one must offer bilva (wood-apple) leaves of the thigh of the Lord On the third day, one must offer gandha (scents) to the navel of the Lord On the fourth day, one must offer java flower to the shoulders of the Lord On the fifth day, one must offer malati flower to the head (siro-desa) of the Lord
Reference: Garuda Puraana (op cit.)

“The last five days of Kartika month are known as Bhisma Panchaka. Grandfather Bhishma fasted for these five days, preparing to give up his life. However one observes Kartika-vrata, he should intensify it for the last five days. The best way to observe the Kartika-vrata is to abstain from eating grains for the whole month, and to take only milk or water for the last five days. If one eats grains during the month, he should avoid them for the last five days. Also, one should only eat once a day. This is the proper procedure [for strict adherence].”

“This five day fast is difficult for those people who are not serious in Bhakti. If someone observes this fast, he is considered to have observed all other fasts, because it is greatly meritorious and frees one from great sins. Therefore, everyone should make a great endeavor to fast on these last five days of Bhismadeva.

“The fast should begin by remembering Bhismadeva on the Ekadasi day and should end on Purnima [the full moon]. One should eat only vegetables or fruits and should worship Lord GaurangaKrishna. If he needs to eat, he should do so only in the evening. A woman can also observe this fast by the suggestion of a twice-born, and if a widow observes this fast, she can also attain liberation and happiness.”

“Srila Suta Goswami says in the Padma Purana, Uttarakhanda, ‘This liberating fast is unknown even to the demigods. If one listens to what I have said and fasts on these five days, even if he had sex his sister, daughter, mother, etc. he becomes free from that sin. Even if someone attentively listens to this narration, he also achieves happiness. I tell you the truth again and again that one should keep this fast secretively, and continue performing it unceasingly - such a person surely achieves liberation.”

“In the month of Kartika, which is very dear to Sri Hari, one who bathes early in the morning attains the merit of bathing in all places of pilgrimage. Anybody who offers a the Lord a ghee lamp in the month of Kartika, O brahmana, becomes free from all kinds of sins, such as killing a brahmana, and he goes to the abode of Lord Hari.” (Brahma khanda ).

Kartika vratinam vipra yathokta karinam naram
Yama dutah palayante simham drstva yatha gajah
Srestham visnu vipra tat tulya na satam makhah
Krtva fratum urje svargyam vaikuntham kartika vrati
(Padma Purana)

“Suta Goswami says, “If anyone fasts and observes the Kartika-vrata according to the rules and regulations, the Yamadutas, the messengers of Yamaraja, run away from him, just as an elephant runs away by seeing a lion. This dear fast [vrata] of Lord Visnu is even better than performing one hundred great sacrifices that would take him to heaven because the person who observes the Kartika-vrata goes to the spiritual world.”

Sulabha mathura bhumau praty abdam kartikas tatha
Tathapi samsarantiha nara mudha bhavambudhau
Yani sarvani tirthani nada nadyah saransi ca
Kartika nivasanty atra mathure sarva mandale
(Padma Purana)

“Although one can easily reach Mathura [Vraja Mandala] on this earth, and although Kartika month is easily observable, and although in the month of Kartika all of the places of pilgrimage, oceans, rivers, and lakes come to the Mathura area, still, those human beings who are foolish and suffering in the ocean of material existence do not take advantage of it.” [Note: Navadvipa Mandala and Kshetra Mandala Puri are non-different from Vraja Mandala and thus great Acharyas like Shri Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura Prabhupada have perfomed their Kartik Vrata in Puri and Navadvipa Dhaam.]

It is advised that it is better to carefully follow the scriptural injunctions to advance in spiritual life than to be lazy and think that it is not necessary.

Vaisnavo na sa mantavyah samprapte kartike mune
Yo na yacchati mudhatma dipam kesva sadmani

"O sage, that foolish person who does not offer a lamp in Lord Keshava’s temple during Kartika is not considered a Vaisnava."

The conclusion is, as Lord Brahma tells Narada in the Skanda Purna: ‘O son Narada, the month of Kartika is very dear to Lord Keshava. If anyone acts meritoriously in this month just to please Lord Visnu, he receives unlimited results.

Relections on Bhishma Panchaka - Ekadasi Period and Fasting etc. The last 5 days of the month of Kaarttika are traditionally known as the Bhishma Panchaka or the Vishnu Panchaka. In the Hari BhaktiVilasa, it is said that if one is capable, one should observe fasting from certain foodstuffs on the Bhishma-panchaka for the pleasure of the Lord. This is optional. The Padma Purana say that one pleases the Lord and makes spiritual advancement by such austerities.

.. The strictest way of doing this fast is to take only the five products of the cow (pancha gavya) on each of the five days(!). . or fast by restricting the eating like during ekadasis: no grains and beans. only fruits and roots.

Krishna brings milk

=35

Sanatana Goswami’s samadhi in Vrindavan, situated next to the Madan Mohan temple.

The Bhakti Ratnakara records how once Sri Sanatana Goswami was alone in the forest on the banks of the Pavana Sarovara performing his bhajan in a secluded place. He had been fasting from food and drink. As he is the supersoul in all living beings, the Lord could understand everything. He thought, "My devotee is starving. I cannot tolerate this."
In the dress of a gopa, Krishna entered the forest where Sanatana was staying, carrying a pot of milk. He came before Sanatana and said, "Baba! I have brought you some milk."
Sanatana said, "Why have you brought me milk?"
"You are not eating properly, that's why."
"How did you know that I am not eating anything?"
"Many gopas have come and gone by here. They told me you have not been eating."
"Why didn't they come?"
"They have much work at home, so they sent me."
"You are such a little boy, why have you taken so much trouble for me?"
"No, no, father. It is no trouble at all."
Taking the pot of milk, Sanatana said, "Sit down, little boy. I will finish the milk and give you back your pot."
"No baba. I cannot sit with you. I have to milk the cows. I will come and fetch the pot tomorrow."
Saying this, the boy vanished, and Sri Sanatana became speechless. He could understand that all this was the work of Krishna. He began to drown in the tears that poured from his eyes as he drank the milk. From that day on he ate by practicing madhukari, or only accepting a tiny bit from many different residents of Vrindavana. Gradually the residents of Vrindavana built him a kutir so that he could stay there.

Vaishnava Mahima

By Bhakta Igor

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna
All glories to Swami Gaurangapada! All glories to Srilla Prabhupada!
All glories to all vaisnavas!
Srilla Narottama Thakura is singing about glories of Devotees:

Vaisnava-mahima
(Glorification of the Devotees)

1 thakura baisnaba-pada abanira su-sampada
suna bhai hana eka mana
asraya laiya bhaje tare krsna nahi tyaje
ara saba mare akarana

O brother, please hear my words with rapt attention. The lotus feet of the Vaisnavas are the most valuable treasure of this world. These Vaisnavas continually take shelter of Lord Krsna and worship Him. They never abandon their Lord. They are liberated. They are free from the cycle of birth and death.

2 baisnaba-carana-jala prema-bhaktidite bala
ara keha nahe balabanta
baisnaba-carana-renu mastake bhusana binu
ara nahi bhusanera anta

The water that has washed the lotus feet of the Vaisnavas bestows devotional service in pure love of God. Nothing else is as effective for attaining this divine love. I place dust from the lotus feet of the Vaisnavas upon my head. I wear no other ornament.

3 tirtha-jala pabitra-guna likhiyache purane
se saba bhaktira prabancana
baisnabera padodaka sama nahe ei saba
jate haya banchita purana

The purifying power of the waters at the various holy places of pilgrimage is described in the Puranas, although this is something of a deceptive trick. Actually there is not anything as purifying as the water that has washed the lotus feet of the Vaisnavas. This water fulfills all desires.

4 baisnaba-sangete mana anandita anuksana
sada haya krsna-para-sanga
dina narottama kande hiya dhairya nahi bandhe
mora dasa kena haila bhanga

Moment after moment my mind finds pleasure in the association of the Vaisnavas. I always seek out the company of those who are devoted to Lord Krsna. Poor-hearted Narottama dasa breaks down and cries. How has this fallen condition come upon me?

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna
Let us always remember this song and praise devotees of Lord's devotees!

Chanting Is The Most Urgent Necessity

=32

From The Art of Chanting Hare Krishna by Mahanidhi Swami:

Saying the Hare Krishna mantra once on each of the 108 beads of a japa-mala constitutes one round. Chanting a fixed number of rounds of Hare Krishna maha-mantra japa is the most urgent necessity and important engagement of a devotee's each and every day.

It should be completed before anything else. There are many Vaisnavas in Vrndavana who will not even drink a drop of water until they finish 64 rounds. Unfortunately, for many devotees this vital activity is often relegated to a secondary position while other concerns like body, family cares and tasks at hand take priority.

Under illusion, one wakes up in the morning thinking, "I have many pressing things to do - E-mails, phone calls, reading the newspaper and watching televised news. What's the hurry? I have all day to chant my rounds."

Chanting Krishna's holy names, the very life breath of the soul, becomes a mere trifling thing to do at some other time. Pity how what should be done first is done last! In describing the word "determination", Srila Prabhupada said that chanting the holy names of Krishna is more important than eating and sleeping.

"If you cannot finish sixteen rounds, then you must not sleep on that day and you must not eat. Why don't you forget to eat? Why do you forget chanting Hare Krishna? This is negligence, aparadha [offense], offense. Rather, you should forget your sleeping and eating and finish sixteen rounds. This is called determination." (SPT 28/1/74)

To please Guru, Gauranga and Krishna purify the heart, and attain perfection on the path of devotion one must chant a fixed number of rounds daily. It only takes about two hours to finish sixteen rounds. Some devotees, due to mental purity and practice from the present and past lives, finish sixteen rounds in one hour.

Although sastras [scriptures] and sadhus [holy persons] show the need for chanting a fixed number of rounds daily, sadhakas [those trying to be devotees] in this dismal age of Kali often lack the determination to finish their daily quota. Lack of determination is caused by residual sins, mental impurity and attachment to sense enjoyment. Incapable of maintaining a steady vow, some devotees chant whimsically-one day sixteen rounds, one day eight, one day sixty-four, one day ten and one day none!

Sri Rupa Gosvami lists determination as one of the six favorable items for spiritual advancement. Synonyms for determination include courage, force, willpower, resolve and strength of mind. How can one obtain all these attributes and increase his determination? In Bhaktyaloka, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura states that determination comes by remembering and discussing the devotional practices of great souls like Sri Rupa, Sanatana Dasa Gosvami, and Thakura Haridasa.

Therefore, let us discuss the life of Haridasa Thakura who displays the best example of devotional determination to complete a fixed number of rounds. Even in the face of inconceivable opposition, Haridasa always finished his prescribed chanting. Late one night a prostitute approached Haridasa Thakura in a lonely place.

Exposing part of her body to his view, she sat down on the threshold of the door and spoke to him in very sweet words. "My dear Thakura, O great preacher, great devotee, you are so beautifully built, and your youth is just beginning. Who is the woman who could control her mind after seeing you? I am eager to be united with you. My mind is greedy for this. If I don't obtain you, I shall not be able to keep my body and soul together."

Haridasa Thakura spoke to her as follows. "I have vowed to chant ten million names in a month. I have taken this vow, but now it is nearing its end. I thought that today I would be able to finish my performance of yajna [sacrifice], my chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra. I tried my best to chant the holy name all night, but I still did not finish. Tomorrow I will surely finish, and my vow will be fulfilled." (Sri Namamrta 1.14)

At another time Haridasa Thakura also displayed extraordinary determination. One miscreant Kazi tortured Haridasa Thakura by having him caned [beaten] in twenty-two marketplaces. Although Haridasa was practically beaten to death, he said:

"Even if my body is cut into pieces and I lose my life, I will never give up chanting the lord's holy name." (Cb. Adi 11.91)[Caitanya-bhagavat]

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, showed one of the greatest examples of determination in the modern age. At the age of seventy Srila Prabhupada left india, boarded a steamship, and went to America to spread the teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. On the boat he suffered two life-threatening heart attacks. Undaunted he struggled for one year through winter snows and a chilly response from the public. Finally after vigorous sankirtana and preaching efforts, Srila Prabhupada registered his spiritual society in July 1966.

Eight months later Srila Prabhupada endured a third heart attack that paralyzed his left side. Generally no one survives three heart attacks. Recovering somewhat, Srila Prabhupada went to Vrndavana to take shelter of Radha-Damodara in Seva Kunja. After a short time, Srila Prabhupada regained his health, returned to America, and commenced a rigorous preaching schedule. During his remaining ten years on earth, Srila Prabhupada traveled thirteen times around the world opening temples, initiating disciples and writing books. Certainly a sadhaka will intensify his determination by remembering Srila Prabhupada, and talking about his exemplary devotional life.

A progressive sadhaka should always remember what the quality of his life was before receiving the causeless mercy of Sri Guru.

The grace of Guru gives one a new life of happiness and hope, fulfillment, peace and perfection. Recalling one's previous useless activities increases one's gratitude and affection for Sri Guru. This in turn deepens our determination to practice sadhana, and strive sincerely to achieve the goal of Radha-Govinda prema. May the following candid words of Srila Prabhupada bless all the readers with renewed determination to chant the holy names of Krishna: "I have gone through a variety of stages of life. So I have got full experience of this material world. A don't want it. That determination is there. Society, family, love, friendship, these nonsense, everything-out! I have tasted. I am no more interested with this material world." (SPC 16/4/77)[Srila Prabhupada Conversation]

Padma Purana on Kartik Vrata

Padma Purana on Kartika Vrata

Quoted by Srila Sanatana Gosvami in his Hari-bhakti Vilasa (the standard lawbook for all Gaudiya Vaisnavas)
Intro-if one neglects to perform the Kartika Vrata all his pious merits amassed in the passed are burned to ashes; his study of the Vedas becomes futile; and his performance of japa, charity, and austerity becomes fruitless.

Glories of Kartika Vrata-Kartikis the best, the purest of purifiers, and most glorious of all months. Kartika month is particularly dear to Lord Sri Krsna. This month is full of bhakta vatsalya. Any vrata, even the smallest, will yield huge results. The effect of performing a Kartika Vrata lasts for one hundred lifetimes, whereas ordinary vratas only last for one lifetime! As Krsna says in Gita that He is the month of Nov-Dev, similarly, Srimati Radhika is the holy month of Kartikwhich precedes His month. Rupa Gosvami and others refer to Radharani as the Kartika-devata or Kartika Devi, in other words, Radhika is the goddess or presiding Deity of the Kartika Vrata.

Daily Offer-tulsi arotik, ghee lamp to Krsna and sing Damodarastakam, bathe in Yamuna if possible, give charity to pure devotees.

Dont Eat: grains given by others, honey, sesame seeds, oils, hing, eggplant, loki, tasty foods like sweets and fried foods, samosas, pakoras.

Dont Do: cut hair, nails, use things of others, criticize Vaisnavas, Vedas or anyone, no oil on body, do not find faults in others or be envious.

Prayer before beginning: "O gopikas! By your mercy may Radha and Krsna be pleased with my Kartika Vrata."

Benefits Observing KartikVrata: All sins flee from the heart. Perform other vratas one hundred times not equal to one performance of KartikVrata. All the holy places will live within your body. Proper performance of KartikVrata gives one a million times the result of chanting mantras, do yatras and other types of vratas. Those who worship Damodara in Vrndavana even once easily attain Krsna bhakti. Dhruva Maharaja attained Hari darsana by worshiping Krsna in Mathura during the Kartika month.

Nitaai is Purna Shakti

By Bhakta Igor

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna
All glories to Swami Gaurangapada! All glories to Srilla Prabhupada1
Here is one very nice verse from Caitanya Bhagavata :

nityananda prasade se haya visnu-bhakti
janiha-krsnera nityananda purna-sakti

"By Lord Nityananda's mercy one attains devotion to Lord Visnu (Krsna). Please know that Lord Nityananda has all the power of Lord Krsna." (C.Bhag. Madhya 12.26)

It is important to notice that Lord Nityananda is described in this verse with words purna-sakti. Purna means full, complete, and sakti means power. So we must understand that Lord Nityananda has all the powers of Lord Krsna. That includes all His transcendental qualities like Name, Form, Pastimes, Abode etc. Just like Lord Krsna is non-different from His own Name, on the same way Lord Nityananda is identical with His own Name. This verse indicate to this highest truth. Janiha krsnera nityananda purna-sakti. Lord Nityananda has all the power of Lord Krna.

Deity and Godbrothers

Q. by Bhushan Nityananda dasa

Nityananda!Gauranga!Hare Krishna!
Gurudeva please accept my humble dandavats at your lotus feet
dandavats at lotus feet of all Vaishnavas

1. Gurudeva, I had a question about diety worship. Diety of Lord Nitai GauraKrishna are non different from Them, how does one approach Them? When one goes to temple to see Shri Shri Radha Krishna ,Shri Shri Gaura Nitai, or when one goes to Dhaam and sees pastime places and Self manifested Dieties Lord Tota Gopinath, what should be the mood, how should one glorify and serve?

2. When one visits of Samadhis of Acharyas, what should be the mood and how should one glorify or respect and serve Them? Gurudeva since I am a neophyte and have absolutly no qualification and am filled with offenses, please tell how should I approach the most situations given above.

3. One more question I had regarding service of Vaishnavas, I heard that Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura Prabhupada said that if one accepts service from ones godbrothers/sisters one falls down. Is that true? But then Shrila Rupa Gosvami said that devotees always try to give each other gifts. Would accepting gifts from Godbrother/sisters lead to falldown? Or would it increase love? I am fallen, with dim intelligence hence I cannot understand the words of Acharyas. By serving Godbrothers/sisters is Shri Gurudeva also pleased? I mean like if everyone comes together and helps each other in advancement of KC. In what way would accepting services lead to falldown? Does it mean that one shouldnt serve devotees, as that would lead to thier falldown ?But everywhere its said one should serve devotees.

These statements sound very confusing because of my dim intelligence, please forgive me for mistakes and my ignorance.

Thank you sooo much
aspiring to be humble servant of your lotus feet

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Shri Guru Parampara! Pranams!

1. The mood should be that we are actually going to see the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself. How much prepared we would be if we have an appointment with Lord Gauranga Krishna Himself? We should read or hear His Pastimes and chant His Names before going to see Him. When we are before him, we should audibly glorify Him with choicest prayers and kirtans by our Acharyas which we should memorize or read or sing for His pleasure in His presence. We should intensely pray for His causeless mercy for our deliverance. And we should offer Him our dandavats, flowers and fruits for His pleasure.

2.Same as above for the Acharyas' Samadhis. These Samadhis are non-different than the Acharyas themselves and the Acharyas are still present there. So we should go with the mood that we will be directly associating with them with a straw in our mouth (very humbly).

3. The six devotional reciprocations in Upadeshamrita are not the association which Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Prabhupada and Shrila Prabhupada talked about in regards to accepting service from Godbrothers. They were talking about the attitude of seeing our Godbrothers and Godsisters as our servants or inferior to us and ordering them to do personal service for us like washing our clothes, errands etc. That should be minimized. Engaging each other in devotional service of Guru and Gauranga with the proper humble mood of a servant of the Vaishnavas is not prohibited by this injunction.

Siddhanta and Paths

Q. by Bhakta Igor

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna
All glories to Swami Gaurangapada! All glories to Srilla Prabhupada!

Dear Gurudeva could you please elaborate about following inqury.

Questions

1. We know that Lord's incarnations are mentioned in scriptures. Is it possible that sometimes Lord appear and that this is not mentioned in scriptures?

2. How we should react/talk/preach with different followers/disciples of such paths

3.How to make difference between real and false prophets, incarnations, devotees (this is very important, because if someone criticize or minimize some great devotee or empowered jiva who is dear to Lord, offencess are severe. But in the same time if we are offering our respects to someone who is cheater or do not preach siddhantha we are surerly making apparadha to Lord. So how to understand and act properly according to that rule is very delicate.

Could you please elaborate about what is our understanding about above mentioned teachings and please give us some guidance regarding that.
Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Shri Guru Parampara! Pranams!

1. Very very rarely. Almost all bonafide Vishnu Tattva incarnations are mentioned in the Vedic scriptures. Though the Vedic scriptures may not mention the name of all the devotee souls who come as empowered representatives of the Lord (jiva shaktyavesha).

2. You can read Jaiva Dharma and Prema Pradipa about how the devotees interacted with followers of other paths. It depends on the path that person is following, the nature of the person one is talking to and also our capacity and purity to help him. If a person is following a wrong path other than pure Bhakti and claiming or following an ordinary mortal as God that he or she should be humbly corrected in a very polite and palatable manner so that they may realize the truth one day. If a Vaishnava sadhu does not tell them the truth then who will? But there are some who are just not ready for it. They should be somehow made to hear the Holy Names and given Prasadam instead of entering into fruitless argument with them. And those who are fanatic and antagonistic should be simply avoided and we should pray for their souls to attain pure Bhakti one day.

3. To understand and respect a bonafide teacher, we have to first deeply understand the bonafide philosophy of Gaudiya Vaishnavism from the Holy Books of our Acharyas. When we know the Bhakti tattva deeply, we can easily understand who is teaching the essence, who is diluting it, who is deviating from it and who is not preaching Bhakti. We should give proper respect as spirit souls even to those who are in ignorance about the truth of Naam and Bhakti Yoga but we would not be able to accept any spiritual teachings from them.

Nitaai Naam is greatest secret. It is greatest mystery. It is mystery evan to devotees who are belonging to any of four sampradayas, what to speak about other spiritualists like yogis, jnjanis or impersonalists. It is so confidential that many devotees within Brahma-gaudiya sampradaya are not fully aware of Nitaai Naam magnificence.

Disciple Characteristics

Q. by Bhakta Igor:

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna

Dear Gurudeva, all glories to you!
All glories to Nityananda and Gauranga Naam!

I realized that I am kali chela and that I do not have any characteristics of genuine devotee or disciple. Please, could you kindly write about basic characteristics of disciple and how to develop them? What are most common mistakes that neophyte devotees are making? How to avoid them? Thank you.

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Shri Guru Parampara! All the divine characteristics of a disciple or a devotee are gradually developed by very steady and regular Naam Bhajana, hearing of Gaura Krishna Katha and worshiping of Tulasi plant daily. The main devotional virtues are humility, patience and enthusiasm as explained by Shrila Rupa Goswami.

The most common mistakes which restrict the flow of Bhakti are critical-mindedness of other devotees, wrong association in life, excessive indulgence in sense-gratification and anything which prevents us from gradually increasing the quality and quantity of our Naam Bhajana.

Daaso'smi, Swami Gaurangapada.

Arrangement of Maya

Q. by Bhakta Igor:

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna
Dear Gurudeva,

How can we know difference between Krishna's arrangement and Maya's test? We may see that many advanced devotees felt on different Maya's test. Is there any hope for us then?

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Shri Guru Parampara! If a devotee is sincere, steady and constant in Naam Bhajana, then he or she will know whether it is Maya's test or Lord Gauranga Krishna's arrangement.

Actually in the path of Bhakti, no one falls down except for those who criticize devotees as the Bhakti we have performed is never lost. It remains forever attached to the soul. It is only a temporary loss of time and we will start again in the future in this life or the next lives until we attain 100% perfection in pure love for Lord Gauranga Krishna. Thus, there is no question of defeat for the Bhakti Yogis if they strictly avoid offenses to devotees. Success is only a matter of time. So the process of Bhakti and Naam Bhajana is the most hopeful truth in creation.

Daaso'smi, Swami Gaurangapada.

Brahma muhurta's period changing?

Q. by Bhakta Matus

Dear Swami Gaurangapada Maharaja,
Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances.

i have one question regarding Brahma muhurta:

i read somewhere that this time refers to 1,5 hour before sunrise,
meaning that this time changes according to the year's periods. Is
that true?

Thank You very much.

Yours,
Matus

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Yes, please read my below article on this subject.

Brahma-Muhurta
The 48 mins from 1 hr 36 min to 48 min before Sunrise

1 Muhurta = 48 minutes. 1 day = 24 hrs = 30 Muhurtas.

Brahma-Muhurta is the 2nd last Muhurta before sunrise. (1 hr 36 min before)

The Time of Rising from Bed:

"The time early in the morning, one and a half hours before sunrise, is called brahma-muhurta. During this brahma-muhurta, spiritual activities are recommended. Spiritual activities performed early in the morning have a greater effect than in any other part of the day." [Bhag. 3.20.46, purport]

Ref. VedaBase => SPL 48: At Home in India: (In Vrindavana)

*****"The exact time for the mangala-arati would vary according to the clock, he (Prabhupada) said, but it must always be one-and-a-half hours before sunrise."*****

The last line of Shri Gurvastakam appears in the Stavamrta-lahari of Shri Visvanath Chakravarti Thakura as follows:

shrimad-guror astakam etad uccair brahme muhurte pathati prayatnat
yastena vrndavana natha saksat sevaiva labhya januso 'nta eva (9)

"That person who very attentively recites this astakam to Shri Gurudeva during *** brahma muhurta *** is sure to achieve direct service to the lotus feet of Lord Shri Krishna, the very life and soul of Vrindavana, at the end of his life."

Shrila Prabhupada writes in Cc. Madhya 24.331, purport:

In the early morning hours (known as brahma-muhurta) ##### one should get up ##### and immediately chant the Hare Krishna mantra, or at least `Krishna, Krishna, Krishna.' In this way, one should remember Krishna."

Krishna book, "Lord Krishna's Daily Activities":

Lord Krishna would immediately get up from bed exactly on the appearance of brahma-muhurta.. After rising from bed, Lord Krishna would wash His mouth, hands, and feet and would immediately sit down and meditate on Himself.

Hari-bhakti-vilasa 1.6:

diksa nityam brahma-kale subhotthanam pavitrata

Text 19

Garga-samhita 4.8.19:

eka-varam- jalam- pitva dhauta-vastro 'ti-nirmalah

brahme muhurta utthaya caikadasyam- harim- natah

During ekadashi one should be pure-hearted and very clean, wear clean garments, drink water only once, rise during brahma-muhurta, and bow down to Lord Krishna

Garga-samhita 4.18.14:

brahme muhurta utthaya dhyatva devim-kalindajam
arunodaya-velayam nadyam- snanam- samacaret

During brahma-muhurta one should rise from bed and meditate on goddess Yamuna' and at sunrise one should bathe in the Yamuna.

Garga-samhita 5.15.2:

brahme muhurte cotthaya gopyah sarva grhe grhe
dehaly-anganam alipya dipams tatra nirupya ca

In each home the gopis rose at brahma-muhurta, anointed the doorways and courtyards, arranged the lamps, . . .

Garga-samhita 8.10.7:

brahme muhurte cotthaya rama-krsneti ca bruvan
natva gurum bhuvam caiva tato bhumyam padam nyaset

One should rise at brahma-muhurta, chant the holy names of Lord Krishna and Lord Balarama, and bow down before one's guru. Only then should one place his feet on the ground.

Commentary by Swami Gaurangapada:

Shrila Visvanatha Chakravarti Thakura, Gurvastakam Verse 9 Mahatmya states that Gurvastaka should be sung in the brahma-muhurta to achieve the lotus feet of Lord Krishna at the end of one's life.

Shrila Prabhupada states that Mangal-arati should always be in the brahma-muhurta which begins 1 hr 36 min before sunrise and lasts for 48 minutes. He also states that ideally the time for mangal arati which should be during brahma-muhurta should vary according to the sunrise time because the brahma-muhurta time always depends on the time of sunrise. The time of sunrise determines the times of all the muhurtas in the day.

All the scriptures quoted above state that one should rise from bed during brahma-muhurta.

Shrila Prabhupada states that brahma-muhurta is the best muhurta for spiritual practices and also it is the best muhurta of the day according to the astrological charts.

In temples built for preaching, it may be a practical problem to daily vary the time of mangal arati therefore Prabhupada fixed it at 4.30 am or 5 am in some places. But then there is also a problem that the mangal-arati may not always be conducted in the brahma-muhurta throughout the year especially in the summer seasons when the sun rises very late. Therefore Prabhupada also said that actually the timings of the mangal-arati should vary as per the sunrise clock.

And also that one may have to get up much before the brahma-muhurta to attend a mangal arati which is fixed at 4.30 am but is much before the brahma-muhurta. For example sunrise is there in Mumbai in the summer at 7.00 am. So the brahma-muhurta starts at around 5.30 am or so. Whereas the mangal-arati may be conducted at 4.30 am. So one may have to take bath around two muhurtas before mangal-arati or even earlier. We all know the story that because Nanda Maharaja went to take bath too early before brahma-muhurta, he was captured by Varuna's men. Ofcourse that was a pastime. This is just a small detail just to bring to our attn.

Devotees who are doing mangal-arati at home can actually conduct and sing the mangal-arati daily during brahma-muhurta to get the maximum advantage of the Gurvastakam prayers and their morning sadhana. They can easily vary the mangal-arati timings as per the sunrise timings which is the ideal and best way to do it as suggested by Prabhupada who said that mangal-arati should always be 1 1/2 hour (1 hour 36 minutes to be exact) before sunrise. They can get up at brahma-muhurta (alarm can be kept to ring just at the beginning of brahma-muhurta) from bed as instructed in all the revealed scriptures (above) and quickly finish their morning duties in maximum of 15 to 20 minutes which leaves them half an hour (total 48 min) to sing and conduct the mangal-arati and begin japa. This will the ideal performance of the morning sadhana by the grihasthas. Any devotee can calculate the brahma-muhurta and mangal-arati timings at his place by getting the sunrise times of their place from the internet. They can try out this website for getting the timings for sunrise in their resp places for the whole year: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/

If temples also want to try to strictly follow what the scriptures and Prabhupada instructed in Vrindavan then there are two options:

(1) Either the temples have two to three or four different mangal arati timings during the year for different seasons in such a way that the mangal-arati is always or mostly conducted in the brahma-muhurta. This is done is many Vallabhacharya temples, some Gaudiya math and other temples.

(2) Or to follow a day by day timetable so that everyday Gurvastakam will be chanted in the brahma-muhurta. Most temples may consider this greatly impractical. But there is a way out. Each temple can publish a small booklet for the whole year about the timings of mangal-arati daily and any regular visitor can have it so everyone attending mangal-arati including the temple residents will know what will be the time of mangal-arati and morning darshan from the booklet. Mangal-arati timings for the whole month can also be posted outside the temple in advance. So everyone can attend accordingly. This is just an idea to show that it is possible if one wants to strictly implement the scriptural and Shrila Prabhupada's instructions given
above. I hope this discussion helps someone.

Pratah-Gayatri can be chanted in the Samudram Muhurta(48 min)before sunrise. Madhyan-Gayatri can be chanted in the appropriate Muhurta (48 min) at noon. Gauranga-Arti and Sandhya Gayatri can be in the appropriate Muhurta in the evening around or after sunset.

Although i am concious about its great benefit in regard to the spiritual as well as material aspects of life, since longer time of trying i was not able to apply it in my life. Some time ago i proposed to myself: "From tomorrow i am getting up at 4 o'clock!" i failed, became humble. After some time i again tried with little more respect: "From tomorrow i am getting up at 5 o'clock!" i failed, became more humble. Then after some time i again tried: "From tomorrow i am getting up at least at 6 o'clock!" i did not manage to do that even. i became desperate. i thought to myself: "Am i so much in ignorance, fallen and undetermined?" i pondered again and again: "The only tapasya (penance) i have to take on myself in this Age of Kali is to wake up early in the morning, before sunrise, and chant the Holy Name of the Lord. This relatively small thing i am not able to do, then how can i hope to achieve success in my sadhana (spiritual practice). For how long will i have to struggle to somehow accomplish my fixed rounds of the mantra meditation during the day and in consequence of that to struggle also with accomplishment of my regural material duties?" i was praying to the Lord: "Oh my Lord, please somehow give me the inteligence and strength to be able to do it." So, yesterday, just like a miracle, a very promising idea appeared in my mind: "What about trying to 'pull the rope on its other end'? What about a more comfortable tapasya, which could grant me success? Yes! From tomorrow i am going at 9 o'clock to bed!" Today is the second day, and i managed to rise up to chant a great part of my rounds before sunrise, thus passing peacefully and blissfully the rest of the day. i am thinking to myself, how foolish i was not able to realize this most important tactics in order to be successful. i am also aware, that it is neither easy. It is actually indeed a sort of tapasya. Due to generally a bad habit of the whole association (who is going to sleep everyday at 9 o'clock?), one is alone in this effort. Thus i am hoping and praying to the Lord and all the Vaishnavas, that They may bless this fallen soul with enough strength, enthusiasm and determination to stick to its proposal and thus become successful. Tilaka Before Sleep

Dear Swami Gaurangapada Maharaja,
Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances at Your Lotus Feet.

i have one question i would like to ask:

i have heard that some devotees apply tilaka before going to sleep. Could You please shed more light on this subject matter? What is the meaning, significance and benefit of such practice?

Thank You very much,
Yours,
Matus

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Jaya Shri Guru Parampara! They want to be sure that just in case they die in their sleep, they don't becomes victims of the Yamadutas, the messengers of hell. Yamadutas don't approach those who apply tilaka on their bodies. Also applying tilaka purifies the body, mind and heart so that one does not see non-devotional and inauspicious dreams while asleep.

Why make your dog a vegetarian

By Nava Gauranga dasa

=29

One of the most common reactions from people when they find out my pet dog does not eat meat is this - 'dogs are supposed to eat meat, it is unnatural for them not to eat meat!' And often people will say that 'tigers and wolves eat meat so why do you expect your dog not to eat meat?'

Infact tigers, wolves and other wild beasts incur no sinful reaction from meat eating! So my dog can eat meat with no further reaction in this regard. Yes it is his nature! But as Hare Krsna devotees we choose not to eat meat or handle meat. In our tradition the cow is infact very sacred and considered mother. She supplies us with so much milk which we can make many nice preparations from.

Most dog food on the market contains at least some traces of cow flesh. So the sincere devotee will at some stage feel a prompting in his/her heart to not have these pet food products in the household, let alone handle them. And yes, dogs can remain extremely healthy on a balanced vegetarian diet. So what is the need for the devotee to continue having meat products in the house?

Actually we need to be very wise in how we make our pet dogs vegetarian. Just like us they need a very balanced diet to remain healthy. So I do this in two ways. I purchase a very affordable (infact cheaper than canned meat product) high quality Vegan Dry Food, which is designed for a fully balanced diet. So the dog can nibble and enjoy this product at leisure, insuring he has all the necessary daily intake of vitamins etc.

Hare Krsna devotees only eat food which has first been offered to the Lord. The left-overs from the Lord's offering plate is called prasadam (mercy). Personally each night I feed my dog the prasadam remnants which I also partake of.

Infact the dog relishes his night time meal of rice, vegetables, dahl, yoghurt and occasionally various fruits. I can see when he eats how much he loves the food.

A common thing today is that people feed their dogs so much junk that the dogs can develop serious health conditions (just like humans) from being over-weight. This problem of over-weight pets is prevalent in the United States of America. So I question, is this kind treatment of your pet?

A dog that lives on healthy vegetarian food will never suffer from this health condition!

Humans do not have to eat meat. So we can choose not to very easily! Why make your belly a graveyard for dead animals? There is so much violence in the world today, so much war and violent crimes! We want world peace but we continue to support animal slaughter houses which kill thousands of innocent animals every single day, just to satisfy our tongue and bellies. If we want world peace maybe we should begin by changing our eating habits....then maybe human consciousness will become more peaceful and non-violent.

'I have no doubt that it is a part of the destiny of the human race, in its gradual improvement, to leave off eating animals.' - Thoreau.

"While we ourselves are the living graves of murdered beasts, how can we expect any ideal conditions on this earth?' - Shaw.

'I do feel that spiritual progress does demand at some stage that we should cease to kill our fellow creatures for the satisfaction of our bodily wants.' - Gandhi.

So the devotee will happily take the Lord's remnants (prasadam) and relish its spiritual flavor,
being fully satisfied. And at the same time maintaining a meat free house.

So.....dogs do not have to be vegetarian in diet, but the simple hearted devotees at some stage of spiritual development definately wish to have a meat free household. Thus vegetarian pets.

Rounds in Advance

Q. By Bhakta Matus

Dear Swami Gaurangapada Gurudeva,
Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances.

i have one question regarding chanting the Holy Names. It is said that one should strictly stick to accomplishing one's fixed number of rounds every day. If one is due to some reason not able to do it then one should make it up the following day.

What about chanting some part of the rounds of the following day on the previous day? Means, if one knows one will have little time for chanting the rounds on the coming day, can one chant some rounds in advance on the previous day(s)?

Thank You very much.

Yours sincerelly,
Matus

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! I would personally not recommend it. We can surely chant extra rounds every day but those are for that day and not for the next day. Is it possible to eat food in advance for the next day? The best would be that we make our most sincerest attempt to somehow find time every day to complete our rounds. And in an extreme emergency when we simply can't do it, then we can chant those extra missed rounds on the next day to make up for the unrecoverable loss of one day without chanting. I hope that helps.

Daaso'smi, Swami Gaurangapada.

Thank you so much for Radhasthami videos
A question came in my mind when i saw the videos.

Since Shri Radharanis holy name is Gaurangii, why are offenses applicable to Shrimati Radharanis holy name?
Those who directly read Radha Krishnas pastimes why arent they purified?

thank you so much,

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

Gauraangi + Krishna = Gauraanga

Though Gaurangi has the almost all syllables like Gauranga accept the last one, still that one syllable specifically denotes either Gauranga Tattva or Radha Tattva. Though Lord Gauranga and Shri Shri Radha Krishna are the same non-different Tattva still we understand that Gauranga Tattva is more merciful with respect to the mercy given specifically to the conditioned and offensive souls. Perfected souls receive the same mercy from both the Tattvas, Their Names, Abodes and Pastimes.

Radha Naam is extremely pleasing to Lord Krishna just like Nityaananda Gauraanga Naam, even more pleasing to Him than the chanting of His own Name. That is why we chant Hare Krishna, not Krishna Krishna only, Hare being the Name of Radha. Since Radha Krishna Tattva is not fully approachable by and accessible to offensive conditioned souls, Radha Naam is also in the same category. Thus one needs to accept shelter of chanting Nityananda Gauranga Naam to approach Radha Naam and Hare Krishna Naam. There is other shortcut for this.

Those who read or hear the intimate pastimes of Shri Shri Radha Krishna's with lust in their hearts may commit offenses (it maybe even on a subtle level, not visibly) against the pristinely pure Radha Krishna Tattva because of approaching this confidential Tattva without waiting for proper qualification. This offense in some way may negatively effect the spiritual benefits they may receive by reading or hearing Shri Shri Radha Krishna's intimate Pastimes and Names and thus they may not feel any spiritual advancement or if they are very lusty then it may lead to their fall down also. Thus the safest method is to gradually approach Radha Krishna Naam and Lila via the magnanimously merciful Names, Pastimes, Associates and Abodes of Lords Nityananda and Gauranga.

The Glories of the Vaishnavas

From Shrila Jagadananda Pandita's Prema Vivarta, translated by Sarvabhavana dasa.

Devotional and places of pilgrimage

A person who goes to a place of pilgrimage only for taking a bath in holy rivers and worships the deity, whom he considers to be made of stone, will take a very long time to develop true religious sentiments.

On the other hand, as soon as one sees a pure devotee of the Lord, his heart is cleansed of all unwanted material desires. He is put into touch with the highest objective of life, and transcendental devotional service dawns within his heart like the rising morning sun that dissipates all darkness.

Associating with a pure devotee

After many births, when the living entity receives the causeless mercy of the Supreme Lord, he comes into contact with a pure devotee of the Lord and by this association he becomes gradually free from the material disease.

The pure devotee purifies the conditioned soul's heart and then he understands unequivocally that Lord Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and the Lord of all other lords.

The kanistha-adhikari neophyte devotee

A neophyte devotee is one who has received formal initiation from a spiritual master and worships the Deity form of the Lord strictly adhering to rules and regulations. He cannot distinguish between an intermediate devotee and a pure devotee. He does not know how to properly respect a pure, elevated devotee of the Lord.

The madhyama-adhikari intermediate devotee

An intermediate devotee is one who has developed love for the Supreme Lord Krishna, is affectionate and friendly to the Lord's devotees, is compassionate to the innocent and avoids the association of envious non-devotees. ery soon, on the strength of his devotional service and Krishna's mercy, an intermediate devotee becomes a first class devotee or uttama-adhikari.

The uttama-adhikari first class devotee

According to the instructions of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a first class or pure devotee of the Lord is one who sees Krishna in every living entity and sees every living entity as part and parcel of the Supreme Lord. He is completely free from envy, anger or hate, and he has no friends or enemies. He is spiritually highly enlightened and is best amongst the Lord's devotees.

The best of the first class devotees utilises his senses and things of this material world in executing pure devotional service. Free from the vices of greed, hate, anger, etc. he constantly perceives the Supreme Lord and His energies manifest everywhere.

The wise devotee spends his days remembering and meditating on Lord Krishna's pastimes. He is no longer deluded by the temporary nature of mundane life and material duties. He is free from the urges of his body and sense, mind and material intelligence, and he is transcendental to the dualities of birth and death, fear, hunger and thirst.

One whose heart has become the permanent abode of Lord Krishna, the son of Mother Yasoda, executes his duties only to maintain the body. He cleanses his heart of any desire to engage in fruitive activities. Such is the process of pure devotional service.

Devotee is free from all material designations

The natural propensity for one who is in the material concept of life is to be attracted to speculative knowledge, fruitive activities and the designations of caste and social order. When the pure soul begins associating with the body, he develops the mood of false identification, such as 'me' and 'mine'. But one who is free from such false identification is to be considered an eternally liberated soul and dear to the Supreme Lord Hari.

He who is free from possessiveness and is completely detached from material things does not make bodily distinctions like 'you' and 'me', which create imaginary friends and enemies. One who looks equally upon all living entities, making no distinctions between them, is an equiposed person, free from anxiety. He is certainly to be counted amongst the best of the devotees of the Lord.

He never leaves the shelter of the Lord's lotus feet, even if he is offered all the opulences of the entire universe in exchange. The Lord's lotus feet are the most coveted object of the demigods and sages. Never for a single moment does he forget the lotus feet of Shri Krishna, he is foremost amongst the pure devotees of the Lord, and he is always in a blissful state of consciousness.

Devotee is free from the threefold miseries

One who comes into contact with Lord Krishna's lotus feet has extinguished the fire of material desire within his heart by the soothing, irridescent rays emanating from the moonlike nails of the Lord's lotus feet. Why should he crave for the conflagration of material existence when his heart can always remain cool under the comforting shade of the Lord's lotus feet?

Other symptoms of a firs-class devotee

Once the devotee fastens Lord Krishna's lotus feet with the bonds of love, the Supreme Lord can never leave the throne of his heart. A first-class devotee of the Lord is automatically free from all duties and responsibilities, because he is wholly surrendered to the holy name of the Lord. Even in an unconscious state, he utters the Lord's name purely.

One who understands the temporary nature of material duties and responsibilities, who leaves all material activities and takes complete shelter of Krishna's lotus feet is certainly a first-class, elevated devotee and is very rarely found. The devotee engaged in devotional service, fully cognisant of the transcendental truth about Lord Krishna's original form, holy name, pure devotees and the process of devotional service, is indeed foremost amongst the Vaishnavas.

One who worships the Supreme Lord and His holy name with undivided faith, knowing Them to be non-different, although he does not understand the intricacies of his own spiritual identity, is also to be considered a very elevated, first-class Vaishnava. This is Lord Chaitanya's opinion.

Realizations on the Bus

All Glories to Shrila Vrindavana das Thakura
All Glories to Shrila Prabhupada
Gurudeva please accept my humble dandavats at your lotus feet
dandavats at lotus feet of all devotees

I read the post of Shrila Prabhupada on writing realizations, so I decided that I should write, I am totally unqualified and neophyte and ignorant so I beg the readers to forgive my mistakes and offenses My father had come to visit me from India. He wanted to go to see Niagara falls, I was afraid how would he go alone, he might get lost, so I thought of accompanying him.

On the bus unfortunately i got the seat right under the lcd screen.I was chanting and they started the movie. And I was distracted, but I did not want to stop chanting and instead watch movie. I started asking, oh my why am i in this place, i shouldnt be here. Here in usa, sometimes due to materialism i wonder why am i in this place, i should be in temple. But I remebered Gurudevas words that by holy names one can remeber Lordships easily.

So I did not stop chanting, I put more effort and was fighting with my mind, which was saying give up stop chanting, submit to the movie. but due to Gurudevas mercy I continued to chant , my mind was still distracted, but slowly and steadily I could focus on chanting and thus continuing, after some hours I became blissfull in remeberance of Lord Gauranga Krishna.

So many times, I was in a very bad situation; like always against some kind of temptation, where my mind always says go for it, forget Nitai Gaura, I cannot artificially supress it, but due to Lord Nityananda's mercy , i remembered Gurudevas instruction and instead of falling for such things, I chanted, and after some rounds, the effect of maya reduced and went away and I felt very blissfull and enthusuastic, upto such an extent that a friend of mine commented, "Are you on caffiene?"

Due to Gurudev's instruction and teaching I realized that, never stop chanting the holy name, whatever it is, always try to remember Nitai Gaura, even if it is very difficult make effort to chant and slowly remeberance of Gaura Nitai will come. Only the holy names Nityananda Gauranga and Hare Krishna MM can help as they have all potency to make the most fallen soul to a Vaishnava. Keep on chanting Nityananda Gauranga and Hare Krishna, the more the better :)

And also read, and serve devotees, even if mind is distracted in beginning do it, slowly taste will come by Lord Nityananda Prabhus mercy.
please forgive my mistakes

thank you so much
