Re: Internet Writing vs Travelling

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna

lowerthenrat wrote " In the modern age it may not be important for the sannyasi or Guru to travel. With the internet
and other modern technology the sannyasi can satisfy every one"

Regarding that, Srilla Prabhupada explains:

"One should not give up anything which can be utilized in the service of the Lord. That is a secret of devotional service. Anything that can be utilized in advancing Krsna consciousness and devotional service should be accepted. For instance, we are using many machines for the advancement of our present Krsna consciousness movement, machines like typewriters, dictating machines, tape recorders, microphones and airplanes. Sometimes people ask us, "Why are you utilizing material products if you condemn the advancement of material civilization?" But actually we do not condemn. We simply ask people to do whatever they are doing in Krsna consciousness. This is the same principle on which, in Bhagavad-gītā, Krsna advised Arjuna to utilize his fighting abilities in devotional service. Similarly, we are utilizing these machines for Krsna's service. With such sentiment for Krsna, or Krsna consciousness, we can accept everything. If the typewriter can be utilized for advancing our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, we must accept it. Similarly, the dictating machine or any other machine must be used. Our vision is that Krsna is everything. Krsna is the cause and effect, and nothing belongs to us. Krsna's things must be used in the service of Krsna. That is our vision."

Basic rice recipe

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna
Here is very simple way how to cook rice!

Basic rice recipe

1 cup rice
2 tablespoons ghee (or butter)
 teaspoon salt
teaspoon black pepper (it is optional, you may also prepare "plain rice" without pepper)
2 cups water
Heat ghee and then add rice. Stir rice on medium heat for 1 minute. Add water and spices and bring to a boil. Cover and put on low heat to simmer for 18 minutes.

While you are making rice, you can meditate on ecstatic "rice" lila from Caitanya Caritamrta:

"In this way, by submitting various humble requests, Advaita Acarya made Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and Lord Nityananda eat. Thus Caitanya Mahaprabhu fulfilled all the desires of Advaita Acarya.

Nityananda Prabhu jokingly said, My belly is not yet filled up. Please take away Your food. I have not taken the least of it. After saying this, Nityananda Prabhu took a handful of rice and threw it on the floor in front of Him, as if He were angry. When two or four pieces of the thrown rice touched His body, Advaita Acarya began to dance in various ways with the rice still stuck to His body.

When the rice thrown by Nityananda Prabhu touched His body, Advaita Acarya thought Himself purified by the touch of remnants thrown by Paramahamsa Nityananda. Therefore He began dancing. Advaita Acarya jokingly said, My dear Nityananda, I invited You, and indeed I have received the results. You have no fixed caste or dynasty. By nature You are a madman. To make Me a madman like Yourself, You have thrown the remnants of Your food at Me. You did not even fear the fact that I am a brahmana.

Nityananda Prabhu replied, These are the remnants of food left by Lord Krsna. If You take them to be ordinary remnants, You have committed an offense.
(Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Madhya-lila, 3.92-99)

Re: Lord Shiva the greatest Vaishnav

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna
All glories to Swami Gaurangapada!

Swami wrote : Lord Shiva can possess a maximum of only 55 divine qualities to a large extent. Lord Vishnu posseses 60 divine qualities to a full extent. And Lord Krishna possesses 64 divine qualities to an unlimited extent

Here is list of divine qualities from Bhakti-rasamrta sindhu:

1.
Srilla Rupa Goswami, after consulting various scriptures, has enumerated the transcendental qualities of the Lord as follows: (1) beautiful features of the entire body; (2) marked with all auspicious characteristics; (3) extremely pleasing; (4) effulgent; (5) strong; (6) ever youthful; (7) wonderful linguist; (8) truthful; (9) talks pleasingly; (10) fluent; (11) highly learned; (12) highly intelligent; (13) a genius; (14) artistic; (15) extremely clever; (16) expert; (17) grateful; (18) firmly determined; (19) an expert judge of time and circumstances; (20) sees and speaks on the authority of Vedas, or scriptures; (21) pure; (22) self-controlled; (23) steadfast; (24) forbearing; (25) forgiving; (26) grave; (27) self-satisfied; (28) possessing equilibrium; (29) magnanimous; (30) religious; (31) heroic; (32) compassionate; (33) respectful; (34) gentle; (35) liberal; (36) shy; (37) the protector of surrendered souls; (38) happy; (39) the well-wisher of devotees; (40) controlled by love; (41) all-auspicious; (42) most powerful; (43) all-famous; (44) popular; (45) partial to devotees; (46) very attractive to all women; (47) all-worshipable; (48) all-opulent; (49) all-honorable; (50) the supreme controller.

2.
Besides all of the above-mentioned fifty qualities, Lord Krsna possesses five more, which are sometimes partially manifested in the persons of Lord Brahma or Lord Siva. These transcendental qualities are as follows: (51) changeless; (52) all-cognizant; (53) ever fresh; (54) sac-cid-ananda (possessing an eternal blissful body); (55) possessing all mystic perfections.

4
Krsna also possesses five other qualities, which are manifest in the body of Narayana and they are listed as follows. (56) He has inconceivable potency. (57) Uncountable universes generate from His body. (58) He is the original source of all incarnations. (59) He is the giver of salvation to the enemies whom He kills. (60) He is the attractor of liberated souls. All these transcendental qualities are manifest wonderfully in the personal feature of Lord Krsna

5.
Besides these sixty transcendental qualities, Krsna has four more, which are not manifest even in the Narayana form of Godhead, what to speak of the demigods or living entities. They are as follows. (61) He is the performer of wonderful varieties of pastimes (especially His childhood pastimes). (62) He is surrounded by devotees endowed with wonderful love of Godhead. (63) He can attract all living entities all over the universes by playing on His flute. (64) He has a wonderful excellence of beauty which cannot be rivaled anywhere in the creation

Re: NITAI MORA JIVANA

Nityaananda! Gauraanga! Hare Krishna!
Yes, indeed a very beautiful and instructive song as all of Thakura's compositions. It is also one of my favorites. It shows us how real bhakti is actually very deep and profound thing and flourishes within the mind and the hearth.
This is the most important temple where worship with devotion is to be performed. It cannot not be destroyed by anyone.
Jivana marana tava puja nivedana... In life or in death I will not abandon Your worship ... sundara he mana hari ... O Beautiful One, o Enchanter of the heart.
I am reminded of the glorious activities of Namacarya Srila Haridasa Thakura, whom although not allowed to enter the temple due to his being born in Muslim family, was constantly performing intense worship of the Lord by chanting the holy names, which he did not give up even while mercilessly beaten by the Nabobs guards on 22 marketplaces. He was prepared to give up his life, but he did not cease to chant the Holy Names even for a moment.

All glories to Srila Haridasa Thakura, who by his intense devotion captured the divine lotus feet of Lord Chaitanya within his spotlessly pure heart!

Your servant: Sarvabhauma das

Re: Lord Shiva the greatest Vaishnav

Nityaananda! Gauraanga! Hare Krishna! Here, adoring means accepting the glories of Lord Shiva as the greatest Vaishnava and the gunaavatara and begging for his mercy to directly approach Lord Gaura Krishna. It means that unless we accept the glorious position of Lord Shiva, we cannot approach His Lord and Master. It does not necessarily mean full-fledged and exclusive worship of Lord Shiva before approaching Lord Gaura Krishna. We can simultaneously adore Lord Shiva while directly worshiping the Supreme Lord Gaura Krishna. Shiva Tattva is included in the Vaishnava Bhakti Tattva.

Re: Lord Shiva the greatest Vaishnav

Nityananda!! Gauranga!! Hare Krishna!!

Wonderfully explained by Swami Gaurangapada and Bhakta Igor.

I am very pleased to know that Lord Shiva will take us to Lord Gauranga Krishna wihout delay. However it is also written  that Lord Shiva wants us to directly worship Lord Gauranga Krishna. This has confused me tremendously. One of the reasons why I thought of worshipping Lord Shiva first was because Lord Ramachanra instructed us to do so.

As we find in the Tulasi Ramayana (Uttara-Kanda, Doha 45), Lord Rama says With joined palms I lay before you another secret doctrine: without adoring Sankara (Lord Shiva) man cannot attain devotion to Me.

Thus will I not be disobeying Lord Ramachandra (Lord Gauranga Krishna) by not worshipping Lord Shiva first ?

Nityananda!! Gauranga!! Hare Krishna!!

Re: Questions About AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and Sleep

Nityaananda! Gauraanga! Hare Krishna! Welcome to the NITAAI.com Forums Gunjan. We surely hope you will be able to regulate your morning Naama Bhajana to attain success in Bhakti.

One practical tip to reduce sleep or to receive sound quality sleep in less time and thus remain active in Bhakti is to do Shavaasana (the dead man pose) for 5-10 minutes a few times in a day whenever one feels tired. In Shavaasana, while meditating on the Holy Names, one should lie down on one's back with bodily parts freely stretched and imagine that one is aloof from the body and that one is the soul in the center of the heart. Begin withdrawing your consciousness from the toes, ankles, calves, knees, thighs, waist, stomach, heart, arms, shoulder, neck, mouth, nose, ears,, head etc. and gradually feel that all these bodily parts are inert, without consciousness, simply dead matter {which is the truth smile }.  Just in 10 minutes of this exercise, your body will feel so fresh, as if you have slept for many hours. All your bodily parts will feel rejuvenated. So one can begin the Lord's service more enthusiastically and you will also learn that you are body but the spirit soul dwelling within the body. smile

Re: Mridanga and Karataala in Sankirtana

Regarding your question about kirtana, practically we are not concerned with the instruments. They are used sometimes to make it sweeter, but if we divert our attention for using the instruments more, that is not good. Generally kirtana is performed with mrdanga and karatalas, but if somebody is expert instrument player, he can be admitted to join Sankirtana. We can accept everything for Krishna's service, but not taking the risk of diverting attention to any other thing which will hinder our Krishna Consciousness. That should be our motto, or principle.

Hare Krishna,

I am new to hare krishna movement. I too believe that getting up early is very essential for not only sprititual advancement but also for our material prescribed duties. I feel very frustrated as well as I fail to get up early every morning. But after reading about that woman's story - that how she used to get up early and get water for the deties.. is very nice. If we really love radha krishna just like that woman did and really want to go back to godhead then I personally believe that this is the LEAST we can do.. I pray to krishna.. please help me get up every morning.. and I pray to maya devi as well to help me pray radha krishna. Hare bol all devotees. Please give me ur aarshirwad so that I can also make progress like you all and become a sincere devotee one day. hare krishna.

Re: Amalaki Ekadasi Feb-Mar

Nityaananda! Gauraanga! Hare Krishna! Today is Amalaki Ekadashi (fasting from all kinds of grain food) and also the Disappearance Day of Shripada Madhavendra Puri (full fasting till noon), the great personality who brought Radha Krishna Prema in the Brahma Madhva Sampradaya. Please read the glories of Amalaki Ekadashi above.

Shripada Madhavendra Puri

During Nityananda Prabhu's tour of all the holy places of India for the
purpose of purifying them, by the will of providence, he happened to meet
Madhavendra Puripada somewhere in western India. When Nityananda Prabhu saw
Madhavendra Puri Goswami he fainted away in a swoon of ecstatic love and His
transcendental body became completely still. Similarly, when Madhavendra
Puri gazed upon Nityananda Prabhu, he completely forgot himself and fainted
to the ground.
Sri Gaurcandra used to repeatedly remark that, in relishing the mellows of
love in devotion, there is no one to compare with Madhavendra Puri. When the
disciples of Madhavendra Puri, headed by Isvara Puri, saw their spiritual
master and the Prabhu fallen in a faint of ecstatic love, they began to cry.
Gradually, Nityananda Prabhu and Madhavendra got back their external
consciousness. When their eyes opened and they again got sight of one
another, they put their arms around each other's necks and cried tears of
joy. Then they began to roll in the sandy earth carried by the waves of
ecstatic love, while rending the sky with their loud roaring. As a river of
love began to flow from their eyes, Mother Earth considered herself to be
blessed in being flooded by that inundation. With the appearance of the
transformations brought by bhava, trembling, tears, and standing of the
hairs on end, it could be understood that their bodies had become a place of
pastimes for Caitanya Gosai.

Nityananda exclaimed, "Today I have received the fruit of all my travels to
the holy places. In seeing the feet of Madhavendra Puri, I have received the
treasure of love of God, and thus my life has become blessed."

Madhavendra Puri continued to embrace Nityananda Prabhu tightly to his
chest. He wanted to say something but his voice was choked up due to
experiencing intense emotions. Isvara Puri, Brahmananda Puri and the other
disciples of Sri Puripada present, became completely enamored by Nityananda
Prabhu. Some other pilgrims were present at that place but due to being
devoid of devotion, they couldn't understand what was going on and continued
to converse amongst themselves. The devotees felt some sorrow to see the
behaviour of those dullheaded brutes so they retreated into the forest to be
rid of their company. When they were alone together again, their distress
was destroyed and they continued to relish the mellows of Krsna-prema. In
this way Nityananda Prabhu and Madhavendra Puri spent some days together in
the happiness of Krsna-katha.

Madhavendra Puri's love of God was very uncommon. Simply upon seeing a dark
raincloud he would fall down unconscious. Day and night he imbibed the
spirituous liquor of Krsna-prema, and thus remained intoxicated, sometimes
laughing, sometimes crying, sometimes raising a tumultuous hue and cry.
Nityananda also behaved just like a madman, falling down on the ground, his
body agitated by waves of ecstasy. As lava belches forth from avolcano, loud
laughter erupted from his mouth while his whole body, as if in the throes of
a great earthquake, trembled violently.

Never before having seen such unprecedented displays of ecstatic emotions,
Madhavendra Puri's disciples continuously remained engaged in Hari-kirtana.
No one knew whether it was  day or night. Having become completely absorbed
in the mellows of Krsna-prema, the days were passing though it seemed to
them that not even a moment had elapsed yet.  Whatever was discussed
between Madhavendra and Nityananda is known only to them and Sri
Krsnacandra.  Who else is capable of understanding such  subject matter?
Madhavendra Puri was unable to give up Nityananda's company and so he
continued to roam about, keeping Nityananda with him.

Madhavendra Puri told his disciples, "Never before anywhere in  all my
travels to all the holy places, have I ever seen such  love as this.  I
could understand that the Supreme Lord is merciful to me when I got a friend
like Nityananda as my close companion.  Whenever one gets His association,
that place becomes the sum total of all holy places and non-different from
Vaikuntha itself.  Whoever simply hears about Him will definitely get the
association of Sri Krsnacandra.  And whoever bears even the slightest enmity
towards Him, though he may be a devotee, is not dear to Krsna."  In this
way, day and night, Madhavendra praised the attractive qualities of
Nityananda Prabhu.

Lord Nityananda respected Madhavendra Puri as his guru and always behaved
with him in that relationship. After travelling together for some days
finally Nityananda Prabhu set of in the direction of Setu Bandha while
Madhavendra Puri started for Sarayu. Having lost contact with the external
world neither of them was aware of his own body. In order to maintain body
and soul together, they thus remained in these transcendental states of
consciousness. If in external consciousness, they would cease to live. C.B.
Adi 9.158-192

At the time of his departure from this world, Madhavendra Puri was
completely absorbed in separation from Krsna and constantly repeated one
sloka. This verse is considered by Gaudiya Vaishnavas to be the essence of
expression of the mood of separation.

Among his associates and disciples were Sri Advaita Acarya, Sri Pundarika
Vidyanidhi, Sri Nityananda Prabhu, Sri Iswara Puri, Sri Paramananda Puri,
Sri Ranga Puri, Sri Ramacandra Puri, Sri Nrsimha Tirtha, Sri Raghupati
Upadhyaya, Sri Sukhananda Puri, among others.

"Madhavendra Puri's body is totally imbued with divine love, as are his
followers as well. He takes nothing other than the juice of the mellows of
love for Krsna as his foodstuffs. Thus his body has become the place of
pastimes of Sri Krsna." C.B.Adi 9.155

His worshippable Deity, Gopalji, is presently residing at Nathdwar in
Rajasthan, and is worshipped by the followers of Vallabhacarya.

Re: Lord Nrsimhadeva - destroyer of material desires

Nityaananda! Gauraanga! Hare Krishna! My favorite prayers to Lord Nrisinghadeva are the ones by Shrila Sacchidananda Bhaktivinoda Thakura to Lord Nrisingha in Devapalli in Navadvipa Bhaava Taranga:

tara purva-dakshinete shri-nrsimha-puri
kabe va heribo deva-pallira madhuri
narahari-ksetre preme gaddgadi diya
niskapata krishna-prema loibo magiya (35)

"South-east of there is Nrsingha Puri. When will I see the pure transcendental sweetness of this place, also called Deva-palli? I will roll about on the ground in ecstatic love while visiting this residence of Lord Nrsingha. Sincerely begging for His grace without a trace of duplicity in my heart, I will attain Krishna-prema."

e dusta hrdaye kama adi ripu chaya
kutinati pratisthasha sathya sada raya

hrdaya-sodhana ara krsnera vasana
nrsimha-carane mora ei to' kamana  (36)

"Within my sinful heart the six enemies headed by lust perpetually reside, as well as duplicity, the desire for fame, plus sheer cunning. At the lotus feet of Lord Nrsimha, I hope that He will mercifully purify my heart and give me the desire to serve Lord Krishna."

kandiya, nrsimha-pade magibo kakhana
niraapade navadvipe jugala-bhajana
bhaya bhaya pay a yah 'ra darShane se hari
prasanna hoibo kabe more daya kori՛՜ (37)

"Weeping, I will beg at the lotus feet of Lord Nrsimha for the benediction of worshipping Radha and Krishna in Navadvipa, perfectly safe and free from all difficulties. When will this Lord Hari, Whose terrible form strikes fear into fear itself, ever become pleased and show me His mercy?

yadyapi bhrtsana murti dusta-jiva-prati
prahladadi krishna-bhakta-jane bhadra ati
kabe va prasanna ho 'ye sa-krpa-vacane
nirbhaya koribe ei mudha akinchane (38)

"Even though Lord Nrsimha is terrifying toward the sinful souls, He offers great auspiciousness unto the devotees of Lord Krishna headed by Prahlada Maharaja. When will He be pleased to speak words of compassion unto me, a worthless fool, and thereby make me fearless?"

svacchande baiso he vatsa shri-gauranga-dhame
jugala-bhajana hau, rati hau name
mama bhakta-krpa-bale vighna jabe dura
suddha citte bhaj'o radha-krishna-rasa-pura  (39)

Lord Nrisingha will say to me, "Dear child! Sit down freely and live happily here in Shri Gauranga Dhama. May you nicely worship he Divine Couple, and may you develop loving attachment for Their holy names. By the mercy of My devotees, all obstacles are cast far away. With a purified heart, just perform the worship of Radha and Krishna, for such worship overflows with sweet nectar."
