Re: In which forms of Money is Kali present??

SB 1.17.38

suta uvaca
abhyathitas tada tasmai
sthanani kalaye dadau
dyutam panam striyah suna
yatradharmas catur-vidhah

Suta Goswami said: Maharaja Pariksit, thus being
petitioned by the personality of Kali, gave him
pemission to reside in places where gambling,
drinking, prostitution and animal slaughter were
performed.

This is from the end of Srila Prabhupada's purport to
this verse:

Gambling of all description, even speculative business
enterprise [this indicates the stock market], is
considered to be degrading, and when gambling is
encouraged in the state, there is a complete
disappearance of truthfulness.

In the past, one business giant in the US was caught in a scam causing the whole stock market to crash. A few days back a prestigious company head in India admitted to fraud causing huge crashes and exposing how the stock market runs on gambling over money which is assumed to exist. There is no real money, but only speculative business enterprise.

In the US the economy is credit based and most people buy everything on credit calculating about 4 years of their future earnings and spend the rest of their earnings in just paying off the debts. This is now happening to the developing countries following capitalist economy as well. The whole economy runs on credit and in the process of speculative marketing over anything and everything, artifical inflation is created raising all the prices. But when it is realised that the deficit has become so great that business cannot be carried on with credit anymore, then there is a huge crash in the economy, bank, stock market and all. Those who were gambling over the price rise and invested in the hope that the bubble will grow suddenly find all their fortunes washed away with the crash in prices.

Therefore this is no different from regular gambling, so Kali certainly resides in these places.

Hope this helps. By the way, can this thread be moved to 'Ask Spiritual Questions?'

Re: In which forms of Money is Kali present??

Dear Venkat,

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Please accept my obeisances!

The system that you have described is called 'chain marketing'. And it is an extremely risky business, atleast in India. As far as I have heard, Many people fall victim to the lure of making a quick buck and so they ultimately end up buying what they do not need. They often get goods of far lower worth than what they paid for and this leads to losses. Often the businessmen give false claims to encourage the customers to spend more. The people soon become part of the business chain. This ultimately leads to many people losing heavily and becoming financially ruined.  I do not know much about these businesses, but I know many people who have been ruined by these things. I don't know how, but this is a fact.

My inner feeling is that Kali may reside in many of these modern day businesses like these or the stock market, or chain marketing and others because now-a-days everything is fast becoming corrupt. But the situation now has made these things inevitable as no business can go on without these modern day inventions. Many small time people are ruined if the stock market crashes, or else they get huge profit without working for it at all, I do not know if such money will stick to them. Prabhupada himself called it gambling.

Anyhow, some experienced and knowledgeable devotee should be the best person to properly answer this question.

Srinath

SRI-NITYANANDAShTAKA

SRI-NITYANANDAShTAKA

Eight Prayers Glorifying Lord Nityananda

by Srila Vrindavana dasa Thakura

TEXT 1

sarac-candra-bhrantim sphurad-amala-kantim gaja-gatim
hari-premonmattam dhrita-parama-sattvam smita-mukham
sadaghurnan-netram kara-kalita-vetram kali-bhidam
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of devotional service. As He walks with the grace of a majestic elephant, His pure, splendid beauty shines like the full autumn moon. Though He Himself is the Absolute Truth, He is maddened with pure love for Lord Hari. He smiles as He rolls His eyes in apparent intoxication, He carries a stick in His hand [in the mood of a cowherd boy], and He breaks the power of the Age of Kali.

TEXT 2

rasanam agaram svajana-gana-sarvasvam atulam
tadiyaika-prana-pramita-vasudha-jahnava-patim
sada-premonmadam param aviditam manda-manasam
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of devotional service. He is the abode of the mellows of devotional service, and no one can be compared to Him. He is the be-all and end-all for His devotees, and the husband of Vasudha and Jahnava, to whom He is more dear than life itself. Because He is always maddened with pure love for Krishna, the foolish nondevotees cannot understand that He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself.

TEXT 3

saci-sunu-preshtham nikhila-jagad-ishtam sukha-mayam
kalau majjaj-jivoddharana-karanoddama-karunam
harer akhyanad va bhava-jaladhi-garvonnati-haram
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of devotional service. He is very dear to the son of Saci-devi and is worshiped by the entire universe. Out of His great mercy He chants the holy name of Lord Hari, thus rescuing the souls drowning in the age of Kali and crushing the pride of the ocean of repeated birth and death.

TEXT 4

aye bhratar ninam kali-kalushinam kim nu bhavita
tatha prayascittam racaya yad-anayasata ime
vrajanti tvam ittham saha bhagavata mantrayati yo
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of devotional service. He said to Lord Caitanya, O brother, the people are all becoming infected by the sins of Kali-yuga. How will they atone for these sins? Please give them a way to easily approach You.
TEXT 5

tato vah samsarambudhi-tarana-dayo mayi laget
idam bahu-sphotair atati ratayan yah pratigriham
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of devotional service. He went to each house in Bengal and, raising His arms, said, O brother, if you will, please constantly chant athe holy name of Lord Hari. If you do this, you will become free from the ocean of repeated a death. Please give Me this gift of your liberation.

TEXT 6

bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of devotional service. He is the Agastya Muni who forcibly swallows the ocean of repated death. He is a rising full moon (friend of the night-blooming lotus) who expands the ocean of the saintly devotees good fortune. He is the blazing sun who extinguishes the darkness of the community of demons.

TEXT 7

natantam gayantam harim anuvadantam pathi pathi
vrajantam pasyantam svam api na dayantam jana-ganam
prakurvantam santam sa-karuna-drig-antam prakalanad
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of devotional service. He traveled on every path, dancing, singing the names of Lord Hari, and describing His glories. Without considering His own interests, He was merciful to the people, and He cast upon them His  merciful sidelong glance.

TEXT 8

su-bibhranam bhratuh kara-sarasijam komalataram
mitho vaktralokocchalita-paramananda-hridayam
bhramantam madhuryair ahaha madayantam pura-janan
bhaje nityanandam bhajana-taru-kandam niravadhi

I worship Lord Nityananda, the limitless root of the tree of devotional service. He fondly grasped His brother Lord Caitanyas soft and beautiful lotus hand, and together they wandered here and there, delighting the townspeople with Their sweet beauty. They both became filled with bliss when They gazed upon each others lotus faces.

TEXT 9

rasanam adharam rasika-vara-sad-vaishnava-dhanam
rasagaram saram patita-tati-taram smaranatah
param nityanandashtakam idam apurvam pathati yah
tad-anghri-dvandvabjam sphuratu nitaram tasya hridaye

These eight verses glorifying Lord Nityananda are the abode of the mellows of devotional service, and they are the wealth of the pure devotees expert at relishing those mellows. All the fallen, conditioned souls can get liberation just by remembering them. These verses are very  excellent, transcendental, and unprecedented. May the two lotus feet of Lord Nityananda appear eternally in the hearts of those who read these verses and remember the Lord.

Re: Lord Nityananda's kaupina

Dear Prabhu,

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! My repeated dandavat obeisances!

Earlier Swamiji had written about this very same realisation in the glories of Lord Nityananda book about Lord Nityananda's kaupina which were in his explanation of Chaitanya Bhagavata verses in Nitaai Veda.

      10. Supreme Glories of Lord Nityananda's loin cloth

Om namo Bhagvate Vasudevaya
Om namo Bhagvate Vasudevaya
Om namo Bhagvate Vasudevaya

Ch 12 Chaitanya Bhagvata Madhya Khanda entitled glories of Lord Nityananda Prabhu. We saw verse 1- 21 how Lord Gauranga MahaPrabhu is Himself glorifying Supreme Personality of Servitor Godhead Lord Nityananda Prabhu in three verses, verse no 18,19,20 which every devotee should know to understand and grasp the Nityananda tattva. After worshipping Lord Nityananda, Lord Gauranga gave Him a seat so now Lord Gauranga MahaPrabhu is asking something from Nityananda Prabhu.Imagine the Supreme Lord from whom all devotees ask everything,He is asking something from Nitai. This shows that Nitai is very dear to Him.Nityananda bhakti is even higher than Gauranga bhakti because Nityananda Prabhu is the only media, only channel, only hope to Gauranga Radha Krishna. Lochana dasa Thakura sings that, nitai katia muhana that Nityananda with His plow has made a channel from the ocean of Gauranga RadhaKrishna prema,He has made a channel for those fallen conditioned soul who cannot directly access the unlimited ocean they cannot go there because of their offences.Lord Nityananda Prabhu has made a transcendental channel through which mercy of Gauranga. He has brought that mercy which was not accessible because Lord Nityananda is constantly thinking about welfare of kali-yuga souls. He is constantly asking Gauranga what will happen to them please think about their benefit,so He is taking all pains to bring mercy to us.Lord Gauranga fully appreciates most compassionate nature of Lord Nityananda Prabhu. I personally desire that my mind deep into compassionate nature of Nityananda Prabhu, more and more we should try to understand this from different angles of vison how He has shown unprecedented mercy to fallen souls. If we dont meditate on Lord Nityananda it is a calamity, because Supreme Lord is meditating on Lord Nityananda.

Prabhu bale,ekakhaani kaupina tomaara .
dehaihaa vada icchaa aachaye aamaara ..22..

Lord Gauranga MahaPrabhu said I have a bada icha very strong intense desire. What is that desire, please give me a piece of Your loin cloth kaupina I want that so much, He being Lord, He is desiring loin cloth kaupina of Nitai one cannot estimate the actual position of Lord Nityananda Prabhu. Kaupina is normally standard garment for renounced person. And there is no one as opulent and renounced in this world as Nityananda. Many different esoteric reasons why Gauranga MahaPrabhu is asking the loin cloth of Nityananda, first of all because Nityananda Prabhu is exhibiting mood of renounced personality,He dosent have any possessions except kaupina,so kaupina is the maha maha prasada of Lord Nityananda Prabhu and an object which is to be worshipped just like Him.Just like we worship Nityananda we worship His paraphernalia just like the Lord because our clothes are different from ourselves but clothes of Lord are non-different from Themselves. There is no diference between the clothes, the ornaments, the bed,the shoes, the crown and the Lord Himself. So speaking in that way.

eta vali Prabhu taara kaupina aaniyaa .
chota kari cirilena aneka kariyaa ..23..

Speaking like this Lord Gauranga requested Him, because Nityananda Prabhu was not at all in external consciousness. He was in total bliss so Gauranga MahaPrabhu Himself went and got His kaupina and He took Lord Nityananda Prabhus kaupina and tore it into many small pieces, imagine the Supreme Absolute truth who is origin of millions of universes. He is tearing the kaupina of Nityananda to distribute it to all the devotees because Lord Gauranga knew it is the greatest gift I can give to the devotees, it will imbue them with topmost love for Me.

sakala-vaishnavamandalire jane jane .
khaani khaani kari Prabhu dilena aapane ..24..

So Lord personally distributed various pieces of Nityanandas kaupina. What fortunate devotees were assembled there the Supreme good fortune of directly getting mahaprasada of Nityananda Prabhus cloth what a great benediction it is and not only that directly from hands of MahaPrabhu. Very Very rare good fortune this is.Lord instructed the devotees what do with that piece of kaupina

Prabhu bale,e vastra vaandhaha sabe shire .
anyera ki daayaihaa vaanthe yogeshvare ..25..

Lord Gauranga said My dear devotees please tie this cloth on Your head, because what to speak of ordinary human beings of this world this cloth of Nityananda this mahaprasada is desired by yogeshwara the greatest of mystics by even Lord Krishna Himself and the greatest of yogis,Lord Shiva who is the greatest yogi all the great yogis and yogeshwara they all desire this cloth

nityaanandaprasaade se haya vishnu-bhakti .
jaanihakrishnera nityaananda purna-shakti ..26..

Very beautiful verse this is also very famous verse,Lord Gauranga is saying that Nityananda prasade se hai Vishnu bhakti, by Lord Nityanandas mercy you get Vishnu bhakti otherwise Vishnu bhakti is far away from you.Because know it for certain 100% that Nityananda is purna shakti complete personification of potency of Lord Krishna so nobody can achieve Krishna without Nityananda Prabhus mercy. Some devotees they worship Krishna very sincerely but they dont try to develop a relationship with Lord Nityananda Prabhu, such devotes find it very difficult to make any tangible progress in Krishna bhakti especially in kali yuga, because Lord Gauranga is saying that you can get Krishna bhakti only by mercy of Lord Nityananda. So actually the goal of all spiritual practices the goal of reading Bhagvad Gita the goal of reading Shrimad Bhagavatam is ultimately come to the goal of reading Chaitanya Bhagvata and understanding Nitai, understanding Lord Nityanandas mercy. Because unless Nityanandas mercy is there one will not achieve love of God, and if Nityanandas mercy is there we dont need anything else.Nothing else is required. In commentary Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura is quoting Shrila Narottama dasa Thakura

Heno nitai bine bai radha-krishna paite nai
dhridha kari dhara nitai paya

BhaktiSiddhanta Saraswati is categorically saying that only by Nityananda Prabhus mercy living entities propensity for worshipping Hari is awakened. There is no other way because Lord Nityananda is predominating diety of Sandhini potency of Lord which creates and maintains spiritual and material worlds Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati is saying in Lord Nityanandas form as a younger sister of Radharani Ananga Manjiri, Nityananda Prabhu nourishes conjugal mellows actually anyone who wants to enter the dancing party of Radha Krishna it is compulsory, mandatory that one has to catch hold of the lotus feet of Nityananda Prabhu and the Holy name of Nityananda Prabhu otherwise there is no hope to see Radha Krishna face to face. Catching the lotus feet of Gurudeva is not substitute for not catching lotus feet of Nityananda because Nitai is Akhanda Guru tattva the original Guru of all Gurus.Ccatching lotus feet of Gurudeva is following is instructions right, so what will Gurudevas primary instructions is to surrender to Nityananda. Heno nitai bine bhai radha-krishna paite nai, Shrila Narottama dasa is Acharya He is Gurudeva for us, They are our shiksha Gurus, They are saying without Nityananda there is no Radha Krishna thats why please hold His feet lightly, dridha kari dharo nitaire paya strongly all the Gurus repeat the same order if one Guru dosent repeat order of surrendering to Lord Nityanandas lotus feet then how can he be Guru,he is not Guru.So catching lotus feet of Gurudeva is to actually following His instructions to actually try to become devotee of Nityananda chanting His holy name. The answer to Your question is given by Bhaktisiddhanta himself he says that as the Supreme Jagad Guru Nityananda Prabhu alone is the origin of Guru Tattva, all Gurus are His partial representations. In regards to devotee the spiritual master is incarnation of Nityananda who is manifestation of Shri Chaitanya. So connection with Nityananda Prabhu must be there otherwise the Guru is not the Guru, the disciple is not the disciple the devotee is not the devotee and bhakti is actually not bhakti.

se sambandha naahi jaara, vrithaa janma gela taara,
sei pashu bada duraacaara

Shrila Narottama dasa Thakura says that one who dosent develop the sambandha with Nitai Nityananda sambandha he has wasted his life, life after life simply transmigrating. He is abominable sinful animal engaged in bad activities. So one has to come out from platform of durachar.Even to give up abominable activities one needs mercy of Lord Nityanandas holy name. There is no other way, sometimes some people vow to become devotees and they try to give up sinful activities durachar but because Nityananda Prabhus sambandha is not there to His holy name.So we are recommending to the whole world to chant minimum 1080 times the names of Nityananda daily, without that one cannot become devotees, without that one cannot actually stop oneself from abominable activities only Nityanandas holy name will purify our hearts.Described by Bhaktivinoda Thakura Vanik adhama murkha je karila paar bramhanda pavitra hai naama laile jaar.

By chanting His name the sinful mentality will become purified, sometimes devotees take up chanting of Hare Krishna mahamantra and they chant for many many years 30 years, 40 years but still that inclination the propensity they dont go they give up chanting sometimes and go back to durachar why is this? Because Nityananda Prabhus mercy is not there.Very short time we have only 20-40 years in kali yuga to perfect our life to make this our last life in this material world, so we have to directly go to the point we cant afford. Once we know about Nityananda one must simply catch His name catch His lotus feet, catch His pastime not worry about anything else, not waste our time with any other distractions. One pointed devotee of Lord Nityananda,His holy names His pastimes can actually and factually understand Radha Krishna very soon, because Nityananda has authority over any rasa with Krishna evry rasa, any rasa you want to enter, Nityananda can take You,even Radha kunda Nitai is there,in centre of Radha Kunda Nitai is there,Ananga Manjiri has a beautiful groove, center of Radha kunda middle of water, there is bridge from Raghunatha dasa Gosvamis samadhi to RadhaKunda ofcourse one cannot see that groove with material eyes.Radharanis younger sister Janhavi devi,it was only due to mercy of Ananga Manjiri Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura attained vision of Radha Krishna and got the name Kamala Manjiri, direct entry into Radha Krishnas pastimes so it was only by mercy of Lord Nityananda Prabhu. All Acharyas have realized Radha Krishna by mercy of Nityananda Prabhu. There is no doubt about it,still why should we hesitate to chant His holy name why should we stop others from chanting His holy name, why should we speak even a drop against His holy name,I dont understand after becoming a devotee one will not become happy if we[..] of Nityananda. If he dosent become happy what chance he has for success in spiritual life.Nityananda Prabhus holy name is so dear to my heart it is the dearmost thing.Somebody asked me what is the dearmost thing to my heart,I said it is Nityananda Prabhus holy name because it gives so much solace and comfort and hope to conditioned souls, that nothong else in this creation can actually do that.

krishnera dvitiyanityaananda vai naai .
sangi, sakhaa, shayana, bhushana, vandhu, bhaai ..27..

There is nobody as dear to Krishna as Nityananda.Gauranga is Himself saying. Krishna is the first manifestation and Nityananda is second manifestation of Krishna and He serves the Lord as His companion sangi, sakha and shayana as His bed, bhushan as His ornaments, bandhu as His well wisher and intimate friend and bhai brother. So all the relationship which Krishna has He has first with Nityananda then with others.Krishna is directly conquered by love of Nityananda, all relationships of Krishna are going through Nityananda. So anyone who has Nityananda Prabhus mercy can enter in circle of Krishna no other way.

vedera agamya nityaanandera caritra .
sarvajiva-janaka, rakshaka, sarvamitra ..28..

Nityananda Prabhus characteristics and His charitra pastimes are uninaccessible and unfathomable and incomprehensible to even Vedas, vedera agamya, sarva jiva janaka He is actually the seed giving father of all living entities cause He is the cause of Mahavishnu who impregnates the mahata tatva by His glance, purusha and prakriti the first purusha MahaVishnu is actually partial expansion of Nityananda.Nityananda is the father of all souls, and rakshaka He is also the maintainer He maintains the creation by glancing over it and sarva mitra He is the wellwisher and intimate friend of all living entities because He is present as the supersoul as a size of thumb in our heart. Shridhara Swami says that actually supersoul is not of the size of thumb. Shridhara Swami says in His commentaries on Gita that when you extend your five fingers the top of index finger the distance between top of index finger and top of thumb that is size of Supersoul the 4 handed form of Kshirodakshayi Vishnu in our heart. So Nityananda Prabhus expansion, so Nityananda Prabhu knows everything ,He is in our heart,He is our intimate friend an intimate friend is one who knows our secrets so there is no one is as intimate to us than Nityananda.

ihaara vyabhaara saba krishnarasamaya .
ihaane sevile krishna-pemabhakti haya ..29..

All the dealings and all the transcendental activities of Nityananda are full of Krishna rasa, mellows of Krishna bhakti, all mellows of Krishna are there in transcendental divine activiuties ,by hearing Nityananda leela one is not missing out anything.By serving Nityananda one gets pure love of Krishna prema bhakti. Not by bypassing Nityananda, never get Krishna prema. This is confirmed by Krishnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami in Chaitanya Charitamrita.
jaya jaya nityananda-caranaravinda
yaohra haite painu shri-radha-govinda
All glories to the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda by that lotus feet I received Radha Govinda by His mercy. So who is that unfortunate soul who will bypass Nityananda Prabhus mercy and directly go to Radha Govinda. If one goes to Radha Govinda without chanting Nityanandas name and Nityananda Prabhus mercy, then he will never become qualified for Radha Govinda.

bhakti kari ihaana kaupina vaandha shire .
mahaayatne ihaa pujaa kara giyaa ghare ..30..

Very beautiful instruction, Lord Gauranga MahaPrabhu gave to devotees. Please worship this kaupina with great care and attention in your home and with great faith and devotion please wear, tie this kaupina on your head and you will get pure love of Krishna effortlessly.

paaiyaa Prabhura aajnaa sarvabhaktagana .
parama aadare shire karilaa vandhana ..31..

So reciveing the direct order of Lord Gauranga, actually Lord Gauranga MahaPrabhu not only addressed the devotees who were present there but also us also now all the souls for all time to come please worship Nityananda with great care and attention please accept His Mahaprasada. So devotees took order of Lord Gauranga very seriously parama adare with ultimate supreme respect and worship and adoration they tied piece of kaupina which they had received from lotus hands of Lord Gauranga. The transcendental kaupina of Lord Nityananda with lotus hands of Lord Gauranga what a great fortune it is.We can also receive this kaupina by attentively hearing this pastime in our heart we can actually receive the mercy Lord Gauranga is giving and Gauranga is giving the teasure of Nityananda to everyone. If somebodys faith is not there in Lord Nityananda and His transcendental nature and paraphernalia including His kaupina then such a devotee cannot advance in spiritual life.Lord Nityananda Prabhu is satchidananda vigraha the personification of sat chit and ananda the source and the reservoir of all divine qualities and all His items including his cloth are also divine, they are not made up of material elements totally spiritual because material objects cannot cover the Lord how can material objects cover the spiritual form of Lord Nityananda not possible to cover the spiritual form of Nityananda You need spiritual cloth. The devotees they worshipped it they tied it on their head and worshipped it and they felt so satisfied and happy they started dancing in love.

Daaso'smi,
Srinath

Gauranga reaching Katwa, and the barber had no power to do the shaving

Gauranga reaching Katwa, and the barber had no power to do the shaving

Reaching Katwa, the Lord met Kesava Bharati and fell at his feet to offer respects. Kesava Bharati remembered the name of Narayana. Visvambhara considered Himself most fortunate to meet the eminent preceptor. They greeted each other with joyful words. Visvambhara asked Kesava Bharati to give Him sannyasa.
While they were talking, Lord Nityananda and His party from Navadvipa arrived. Gauranga smiled and greeted them, "It's good that you have come here." Thinking that His taking sannyasa would help everyone, the Lord again requested Kesava Bharati.
The respected Kesava Bharati said, "Listen Visvambhara, my heart trembles over the idea of awarding You sannyasa. You are a young man with a beautiful body who has never known any suffering from Your birth. Besides, You're wife is young and You don't have a son, or daughter for that matter. I don't want to give You sannyasa. When one passes fifty years of age he becomes naturally detached from material enjoyment. Then he's eligible to take sannyasa."
Lord Gauranga said, "O great sage and venerable sannyasi, what can I say before you? But don't bewilder Me. Other than you, who knows the truths of self-realization? A human birth is rare in this world. To practice devotional service is even more rare. But the rarest, most valuable thing of all, is to get the association of a pure devotee of Lord Sri Krishna.
"In a second this rare human body can perish. If you hesitate, this body may disappear. Then how will I obtain the association of a pure devotee? Please don't bewilder Me. Give Me sannyasa, and by your mercy I'll be able to serve Krishna." Gauranga looked sad with His reddish eyes full of tears.
He showed all the symptoms of ecstatic love of Krishna in His body.

With a voice rumbling like the clouds, Visvambhara said, "Had ! Had !" Sometimes Gauranga stood in a three-fold bending form calling out "Vamsi! Vamsi !" The next moment, being thrilled with joy, His body shivered and He cried out with a laugh, "Rasa-mandala! Govardhana!"
Amazed and feeling apprehensive, Kesava Bharati contemplated the situation. He realized he had made a mistake by not giving sannyasa to Gauranga. He thought, "This person must be the guru of the world. If I initiate Him, He will fold His hands and 'call me 'guru' ."
Kesava Bharati said .to Mahaprabhu, "First go home, meet your mother and get her permission to take sannyasa. Approach Your goodnatured wife and Your other associates, and clearly tell them Your plan to take sannyasa. Taking their leave, return to me." Kesava Bharati intended to leave Katwa right after sendinlg Gauranga away.
The omniscient Lord V^svambham read Kesava Bharati's mind. Then smiling sweetly, He said, "I will obey your order." Gauranga started for Nadia. Meanwhile, Kesava Bharati thought to himself, "I can't escape that Lord whose bodily pores are the resting place of unlimited universes. I am a fool for not seeing all these things. Gauranga is the life and Supersoul of all living entities." Thinking like this, Kesava Bharati called Gauranga back.
"Listen Gauranga," said Kesava Bharati, "I'm afraid to give You sannyasa. You are the spiritual master of the world; so who can act as Your guru? Why do You bewilder me for nothing?"

On Lord Caitanya's order, Candrasekhara gathered everything needed for the ceremony. He gathered many things from many different villages. Words cannot describe all that he gathered. From everyone he gathered yogurt, milk, ghee, dal, betel nuts, sandalwood, flowers, a sacred thread, and cloth. He gathered many different kinds of food. From where did he get all this? I do not know. Everyone very joyfully chanted the holy names of Lord Hari. Only Hari", and no other sound, was heard from anyone's mouth.

Then Lord Caitanya, the life-breath of all the worlds, sat down to shave off His sikha. Then the barber sat down facing Him. At that moment a great sound of weeping arose. The barber then placed the razor to the Lord's curly hair. Unable to place his hand on the Lord's head, the barber wept.

Nityananda and the other devotees fell to the ground and wept. What could the devotees do? They could only grieve and weep. Someone said, What are the rituals fro sannyasa?" When this was asked, the women all deeply sighed. Unseen by anyone, the demigods also wept. The numberless universes were filled with weeping. With these pastimes of karunya-rasa (the mellows of grief), Lord Caitanya made the stones, dry sticks, and other inanimate objects melt. Lord Caitanya manifested these pastimes to deliver everyone. Seeing these pastimes, everyone wept. Tasting the nectar of ecstatic love, Lord Caitanya became restless. Always trembling and weeping, He could not remain still. Demanding, Sing! Sing!" Lord Caitanya stood up. Mukunda sang, and Lord Caitanya danced without stop.  Lord Caitanya had no power to sit down and remain still. Tasting the nectar of ecstatic love, He trembled. He shed streams of tears.  Sing! Sing!", Lord Caitanya roared.

The barber had no power to do the shaving. Somehow or other, after all these days, the act of shaving was completed with great love. Then Lord Caitanya, the master of all the worlds, bathed in the Ganga, returned, and sat down as a sannyasi. The Vedas say, Lord Caitanya is the siksha-guru (instructing spiritual master) of everyone."

The Lord's acceptance Kesava Bharati as His spiritual master was only a trick. Lord Caitanya said, In a dream an exalted person whispered the sannyasa-mantra in My ear. You will see whether it is the right mantra or not". Speaking these words, Lord Caitanya whispered the mantra in Kesava Bharati's ear. By this trick Lord Caitanya mercifully accepted Kesava Bharati as His disciple. At that moment great wonder took birth in Kesava Bharati's heart.  Kesava Bharati said, This is the best of great mantras. You have certainly attained Lord Krishna's mercy."  By Lord Caitanya's order, noble-hearted Kesava Bharati repeated that mantra to the Lord. Then the four directions became filled with auspicious sounds of Lord Hari's holy names. In this way Lord Caitanya, the crest jewel of Vaikuntha accepted sannyasa.

Accepting a charming saffron cloth, Lord Caitanya was more handsome than millions of Kamadevas. His head and all His limbs were anointed with sandal paste. Covered with a flower garland, His body was glorious. A splendid danda and kamandalu rested in His graceful hands. He was always agitated with ecstatic love for a person who was actually Himself.  His graceful face was more glorious and handsome than millions and millions of moons. His two lotus eyes were filled with streams of tears. Some day Vedavyasa will perfectly describe Lord Caitanya appearance as a sannyasi. In the Sahasra-nama (Thousand names of Lord Vishnu) Vedavyasa has already described Lord Caitanya as a sannyasi.  In this prayer is a verse that in truth describes Lord Caitanya, the king of brahmanas. All the Vaishnava know
the heart of this verse, which declares (Mahabharata, Dana-dharma-parva, Chapter 149, Vishnu-sahasra-nama-stotra, verse

sannyasa-kric chamah santo
nishtha-santi-parayanah

The Lord will take the fourth order of spiritual life (sannyasa) and will be very self-controlled. He will be distinguished from the Mayavadi sannyasis in that He will be fixed in devotional service and will spread the sankirtana movement."* Then noble-hearted Kesava Bharati considered what name to give the Lord. He said, the Vaishnavas in the fourteen worlds do not see what my eyes see. Nowhere is there a name that satisfies me.  The name `Bharati' would mean `the disciple of Kesava Bharati'. Therefore that name is not appropriate for You." As the fortunate sannyasi Kesava Bharati was thinking in this way, saintly Goddess Sarasvati entered his tongue.  In this way he decided on the right name. Placing his hand on the Lord's chest, pure-hearted Kesava Bharati said, You make the whole world chant the name `Krishna'. In this way You make the whole world alive (caitanya) with kirtana. Therefore Your name will be `Sri Krishna Caitanya'. Because of You everyone in the world will become fortunate."

Re: WHY THE PLACE IS NAMED EKACHAKRA DHAMA:

Dear Vaisnavas,

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna! That is very interesting information, I had the question too. Thank you very much!

The incident that you have mentioned is very curious and I feel very surprised to see this connection between Krishna throwing the wheel and it landing at Ekachakra. Even more curious is the fact that Ekachakra is also the place where the Pandavas escaped to from the burning house of lac. I cannot help but feel strangely curious when I read this, though I don't know why. I personally think there's a hint of Nityananda prabhu's glories in the Mahabharata by mentioning his abode.

Ekachakra as a matter of fact, is even more hidden and confidential than the rest of Navadvipa dham. I see Swamiji's videos and there places in and around Ekachakra Dhama stands out literally in the middle of nowhere with only desolate landscape till the horizon. Even now the full glories of the place have yet to be realized. Only a few fortunate devotees can actually see the dham. As a matter of fact whenever I have visited any holy Dham like Puri and Vrindavan I have always had this feeling of being in a mysterious place hidden from view.

Mayapur and the surrounding places have become very revealed to the world and many are aware of it. But Ekachakra still remains hidden. As a matter of fact, the place has been almost forgotten for so long that most of the holy places there are on the verge of disappearing and Swamiji has mentioned that all of us would do very well to serve the Dhama in these times. We should all try to become qualified to serve the Dhama with the inspiration of the Gosvamis and their service to Vrindavan Dham and Bhaktivinode and Bhaktisiddhanta and their service to Navadvipa Dham.

Bhakta Igor's prayers to Ekachakra Dham are truly amazing realisations. I request one go through them all. All glories to the abode of Nitaai!

Srinath

In which forms of Money is Kali present??

Nityaananda Gauraanga Hare Krishna!!

Dandavat Pranams to Swamiji and all the Vaishnavas!!

Recently there are a lot of organisations that pay people for making their friends join that course or register on the organisation's site or something like that. The more no. of people you join the more money you get.

For egs- there is an organisation offering a computer course. You have to pay Rs 600 to become a lifetime member and after you make two more people join, you get paid Rs 175 per week. Very luring isn't it??

Now my question is-- spiritually, is this type of earning correct? Is Kali present in such forms of money? Where is the barrier between genuinely earned money and money in which Kali is present?

Please remove my ignorance.

Nityaananda Gauraanga Hare Krishna!!

Re: Sriman Mahaprabhu leaves Nabadwip to go Katwa to take sannyas

Dear Vaisnavas,

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna! Please accept my dandavat obeisances!

Locana Dasa's Chaitanya Mangala is a very beautiful song which goes very deep in presenting the bhavas in devotion. The second part of 'Mahaprabhu accepting sannyasa' can make anyone weep with its narration. I would like to know more about this great Vaisnava. Please tell me if it is there on Nitaai Veda.

Sincerely,
Srinath

Re: My Video Reply to the Puri Incident Regarding Shrila Prabhupada

Nityanaanda Gauraanga Hare Krishna!!

All glories to Swamiji!! Al glories to the Vaishnavas!!

Dear lowerthanarat prabhu,

I had just attended the ISKCON's Rath Yatra here in Chennai, South India, yesterday. And now I see this discussion on whether the Rath Yatras should be conducted in other places in India.

Let me first describe yesterday's rath yatra here in Chennai. The rath started in Mylapore, one of the most important Shiva dhams in South India, right opp to the famous Kapaleeswara Temple. The guest of Honor was Vaiyasaki Das and a very prominent Sri Vashnava-Sri Anannthapadbhanabacharya. During the inauguration ceremony, Vaiyasaki prabhu gave an excellent point--Lord Krishna in Puri is Lord Jagannath. Please note the word Jagannath. The Sri Vaishnava too supported this point, heaped praises on the ISKCON for conducting the Rath yatra and also requested them to conduct it in other places in the south. There was great ecstasy and dancing as soon as the rath started moving. As many as 2000 to 3000 people attended the rath yatra. This is apart from the curious onlookers on the road and from balconies, and the smiling priests from the Kapaleeswara temple, who just couldnt resist chanting or atleast clapping their hands. Everyone was all smiles, smiles that defeated the Lord on the rath;gleaming eyes filled with joy; laughter and fervent chants of Krishna, Raama, Baladev, Subhadra, Jagannath, Haribol, NitaiGaur resounding through the air. The Sri Vaishnavas were especially very happy, some of them even dancing. And then we have beautiful kirtan of Vaiyasaki prabhu along with ecstatic dancing. Some senior devotees of the ISKCON along with Bhanu Swami Maharaj and Sri Anannthapadbhanabacharya were throwing prasada from the rath and devotees jumped up to catch it. Ah! It was bliss!!

I hope I was able to atleast give you a picture of how wonderful the Rath yatra was. Now coming to this discussion, let us first go to the word Jagannath. Jagannath means Lord of the World. So he is the Emperor. We have read in the Srimad Bhagavatam that Parakshit Maharaja drove his chariot all over the world when he was the emperor. So cannot Krishna, the eternal emperor of the universe, drive His chariot wherever He wishes to. How can it be justified that He can ride in places all over the world but only in Puri, when it comes to India?? Nila Madhava is Jagannatha and not only Purinatha. If He wishes to deliver everyone in this world, then who can dare stop Him??

"For one who sees the Lord on the rath, there is no rebirth." (can someone pl tell me where this quote is from). So is this not a great service? All those thousands who saw the rath yesterday were delivered.

Also it has now become common to see replicas of famous forms of the Lord in many places. For example, we can now find many Balaji or Vittala temples in India. Many built in the same style as the original one. Almost all Balaji temples conduct sevas like the Kalyanotsavam, Vasanthosavam, etc as they are conducted in the main shrine in Tirumala Tirupati. The Devasthanam board which governs the procedings in the main shrine, sometimes even supports such endeavors by locals to replicate the sevas in other Balaji temples. Does this mean that the originality or the sanctity of Tirumala has been lost or compensated?? Or do the people of Pandharpur, where the main shrine of Vittala is located, go on a rampage because there are Vittala temples all over the country or that Thukaram's abhangs are being sung everywhere??

The media also always likes to point out faults in everything. Yesterday's Rath yatra never came in today's paper despite thousands attending it. But had there been any untoward event, it would have featured on the first page. There are certain fanatics in Puri who, though call the Lord as Jagannath, never regard Him as so. It is a sad issue and must be neglected. Such replicas of famous festivals occuring in different places has become very common. And the masses accept it. Views have now become very broad. For a handful of fanatics, saying that rath yatra festivals should not be conducted in India, is wrong.

The fanatics in Puri indeed never look upon the Lord as Jagannath. Low caste people, people of other religions, and foreigners are not allowed inside the temple of Puri. Those fanatics think they own the Lord. Conducting such festivals is right, for it is our duty to execute the wish of the Lord and our acaryas.

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura introduced the system of brahmana diksha. There was huge opposition at His time. But yet Prabhupada did not remove the system. Smartas, Mayawadis and other apasampradayas will always oppose whatever the Vaishnavas do. We must turn a deaf ear to all their blabber and take the instructions of Mahaprabhu on our head and vow to never leave them even if it endangers our life (how can it when Nitaai is there to protect us smilesmile). Swamiji has already cited evidences to show that conducting the rath yatra in other places, India or abroad is not wrong.

So let us spread the Holy name!! The rath yatra was a beautiful occasion for sankirtan. The atmosphere is charged with the Holy names of the Lord and Love of Godhead spreads everywhere. Let everyone chant the glories names of the Lord and let Nitaai bestow His mercy on them. Let Love of the Lord overflow every nation, every town, city and every heart!!

I hope lowerthanarat prabhu, that I have not offended you in any manner by what I have said. If I have I fall at your feet and beg your forgiveness. Please bestow your blessings on me so that I may always serve and please the Vaishnavas.

Srinath prabhu, please do not get so incensed like this anymore. It spoils the decorum of the forum. We are here to spread Love of Godhead. Where is the place for anger or such heated tensions when we are going to spread Love?? It is difficult for people outside India to understand the mentality of people of here. The media is to blame as they portray only the fanatics here and not the general mentality of the masses. It is only a communication gap that arises due to time and distance. I just read today in the BTG that sankirtan was conducted in a chruch on Diwali in the US. We cannot understand this because such things do not happen currently in India. Please do not get incensed like this anymore. I seek forgiveness if I have offended you in any manner.

Gaur Premanande!

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna!!

Venkat

Sriman Mahaprabhu leaves Nabadwip to go Katwa to take sannyas

Sriman Mahaprabhu leaves Nabadwip in the night to go to Katwa to take sannyas.

The Lamentation of Vishnupriya

After taking His evening meal, Gauranga went to take rest in His bed chamber. Vishnupriya rushed to the Lord and sat by His lotus feet.
Her face was sad^ She sighed heavily as she looked at Gauranga. Vishnupriya wrapped her creeper-like hands around Gauranga's feet and took them into her heart. Tears streamed down her face, wet the sari c6vering her breasts, and fell upon Gauranga's feet.
Suddenly, Gauranga woke up. Sitting up in bed, the Lord said, "My dear, why are you crying? You are most dear to Me. I don't understand why you are crying."
Sitting Vishnupriya on His lap, Gauranga affectionately touched her chin and spoke some sweet words. Crying and feeling helpless, Vishnupriya didn't respond. Although Gauranga repeatedly asked her, Vishnupriya remained silent, simply clutching the Lord's lotus feet. Knowing all the ways of love, the Lord dried the tears from her face with His cloth. Again He asked her the cause of her grief.
In a half-choked voice Vishnupriya said, "O Lord of my life and heart. Please place Your hands on my head. I have heard that You're going to take sannyasa. This news crushes my heart. I feel like entering the fire. My life, wealth, beauty, dresses, ornaments, glances and gestures are all meant only for You. If You leave me, what value is my life? My heart is burning in the fire of this poison.
"Let my life go to waste. But I want to know how You'll walk to distant countries. Your feet are softer than sirisha flowers. They're so soft that even I don't touch them in fear of giving You pain. With Your feet of reddish-hue, how will You travel through the thorn-filled forests?

"Your moonlike face is a pool of nectar. With the slightest endeavor, pearl-like drops of perspiration appear on Your lotus face. During the monsoon season it will be constantly raining. At other times, scorching sunshine will dry up everything. A sannyasi must endure a life full of suffering.
"I know nothing other than Your lotus feet. Under whose shelter are You leaving me? Your Mother Saci is old and weak. How can You leave her? What will You accomplish by leaving Your dear devotees such as Advaita, Srivasa, Murari, Mukunda and others?
"How can You just leave them and take sannyasa? You are the personification of love, and You love everyone in the world. But the way that You're acting now seems contradictory. For when You travel far away to distant countries, all Your devotees will die in separation.
"Is it because of me, the worthless one who 's keeping You bound in material existence, that You're leaving to take sannyasa? If that's so, then let me take a last loving glance at You before I kill myself by drinking poison. Then You can stay happily here in Your home. O my Lord, please don't go to distant countries. There is nobody else in my life. When I look at Your face, my heart bums, anticipating our imminent separation."
Vishnupriya fell silent, incapable of expressing the deep pain within the core of her heart. She kept weeping and clutching the feet of Lord Gauranga. Gently smiling, the Lord picked up Vishnupriya, and sat her on His lap. To alleviate Vishnupriya's distress, the Lord joked with her.
Gauranga said, "Who told you that I'll go away and take sannyasa? I will always tell you about My plans. Don't be overwhelmed by lamenting without a cause." Then the Lord tenderly kissed Vishnupriya, and pacified her in various ways. They passed the night enjoying the unlimited pleasures of love.
At the end of the night, Vishnupriya still felt a burning pain within her heart. While looking at the dearmost Lord of her life, she put Gaura's hand on her breast and said:
"Pi'abhu, don't tell a lie in fear of hurting me. I can guess that You're cleverly trying to trick me. Without my knowledge, You'll just run away suddenly. You are Your own controller; nobody else controls You. Now do whatever You like, and take sannyasa if You want. But please tell me definitely. Are You going to take sannyasa?"

Gauranga smiled sweetly and said, "Listen, O, most dear one. Please listen very carefully, because I'm speaking for your benefit. Everything you see in this creation is temporary and always changing. God and the Vaisnavas are the only everdasting truths. Besides these two, everything else is temporary and illusory.
"Sons, husbands, mother, father, man and woman are all false, temporary designations. Ultimately, who belongs to whom? Except the lotus feet of Krishna, no one else can be called our near and dear one. Whatever you see in this world is the Lord's impermanent external energy.
"Krishna is the soul of all living entities, be they men or women. Due to maya's conditioning, they appear as two. Krishna is the purusa, supreme enjoyer. Krishna is the actual husband of everyone. Everything else is prakrti, Krishna's enjoyable energy. Nobody understands this.
"By the union of semen and ovum a living being is created in the ' womb. He is born in total ignorance. After going through boyhood and youth, he suffers many miseries in old age. He becomes completely attached to his body and home. The old man spends his days lamenting to himself, 'I spent my whole life working hard to maintain and protect my wife and family. And now they criticize and reject me in my old age. In the end I simply feel angry and cheated by those whom I loved.'
"Although he's practically deaf and blind, morose and lamenting, and crying because of the pains of old age--still he will refuse tO worship Govinda. Instead of serving Krishna, he accepts another material body, remaining trapped in material existence. Infatuated by false ego, he forgets Lord Krishna, his real master, and suffers severely.
"Your name is Vishnupriya, so make yourself worthy of your name. Don't uselessly lament for nothing. Just remove all misgivings from your mind, and absorb yourself in Krishna consciousness."
In this way, Gauranga consoled Vishnupriya, removing all her miseries and lamentation. Suddenly, Gauranga showed His four-armed Vishnu form to his wife. But Vishnupriya still thought of Gauranga as her beloved husband, even after seeing this four-armed form.
Vishnupriya fell down at Gauranga's lotus feet and said, "Prabhu, please hear my request. I know I have taken a worthless birth in this miserable world of birth and death. Nevertheless, You are my husband and the lord of my life. I am so fortunate to be Your maidservant. Then why am I suffering such difficulty?" Saying this, Vishnupriya cried helplessly on the verge of going mad.
Feeling sorry for the distress of His dear one, Gauranga also cried. The Lord sat Vishnupriya on His lap and tried to comfort her. Gauranga said, "Listen,. Vishnupriya Devi, no matter where I may go, if you simply think of Me within your heart, I will be right there to give you shelter. I solemnly promise this to you."
Vishnupriya thought to herself for a moment and said, "Prabhu, You are the completely independent Supreme Lord. According to Your sweet will, You can do whatever You want. Who will obstruct Your actions?"
Lord Gauranga didn't reply. Then Vishnupriya hung down her head to keep the Lord from seeing her gushing tears. Out of compassion, Gauranga spoke some affectionate words.
Thus Locana Dasa sings the heart-rending glories of Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu.
Gauranga woke early in the morning and performed His brahminical duties. His mind was set: He would take sannyasa. Nimai Pandita would go to Kantaka-nagara [Katwa] and take sannyasa from the illustrious Kesava Bharati Goswami. The Lord began His journey by swimming across the Ganges.

One devotee said, "We heard that Mahaprabhu went to Katwa to take sannyasa from Kesava Bharati,
