Re: Why do we need Guru?

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krsna!

Dear Mihir,
please accept my simple obiesances at your feet.

Thank you so much for sharing that you chanted Nityananda and Gauranga's Holy Names on beads for the first time smile

I am sure you will look back oneday at the Gaura Purnima week 2008, and recall this most auspicious time for you. I still remember clearly the first time I chanted Nityananda Gauranga on beads, it was the week leading up to Gaura Purnima 2004.

Srila Gurudeva is so kind, and has so much faith in Nitaai-Gaura Naam, that we can take his shelter at any stage as we take up Nitaai-Gaura chanting. We can take deeper initiations which require us to follow the 4 regulations at a later stage. When we are ready within ourself. Then we can be sure of keeping steady in our vows.

Blessings to you on your journey back home. A journey full of bliss in service.

your servant....Nava Gauranga dasa.

700 verses in Gita

Nityaananda!!!Gauranga!!!Hare Krishna!!!! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Guru parampara!!!

Is there any significance to this number 700? Also I just made some quick observations:

chapter 18 and 7 contain 78 and 30 verses, add them up 78+30 = 108

again add verses in 7, 9, 15 and 16 you get 108.

I am just curious is there a mathematical pattern in Gita and does it have any significance.

Happy Goura Poornima to all devotees. Haribol!!!!

Re: Lord Nrsimhadeva - destroyer of material desires

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krsna!

Dear devotees,
Happy Gaura-Purnima! And festival of Jagannatha Misra!
Please accept my simple obiesances.

I am reading Sri Brhad - Bhagavatamrita presently whilst chanting the Holy Names of Nityananda, Gauranga, and Hare Krsna. This wonderful book sings the glories of pure devotion and pure devotees. The All-Pure Sri Krsna!

It has been a most wonderful read, and I am very much looking forward to working my way through the book, and in the last pages relishing the glories of Goloka Vrindavan, and the glories of the residents of that perfectly pure realm.

The below verses are sung by Lord Shiva to Narada Muni. Lord Shiva has just finisihed glorifying Vaikuntha and the devotees who reside there, and also the devotees who still have material bodies but have no desire but Krsna (who manifest Vaikuntha in this earthly realm).

Lord Shiva now begins to glorify the wonderful pure devotee, Prahlada Maharaja. I am feeling by some good fortune, readings this book may purify my heart which has no devotion, and nurture Jaap of the Holy Names. To help me realize the glory of pure devotion, the pure devotees, and the All-Pure Sri Krsna.

in service....Nava Gauranga dasa.

Sri Brhad - Bhagavatamrita by Sanatana Goswami

Text 74

O brahmana, sit down, and I will whisper a great secret in your ear. Please listen with great faith.

Text 75

Prahlada, whose fame as a great devotee is spread throughout the entire universe, is more dear to Lord Krishna than your father, than me, than Garuda and all the other devotees, and even than the goddess of fortune herself.

Text 76

Have you forgotten the words of the Supreme Personality of Godhead? Do you not remember this verse in the Puranas (Shrimad-Bhagavatam 9.4.64):

Text 77

"O best of the brahmanas, without saintly persons for whom I am the only destination, I do not desire to enjoy My transcendental bliss and My supreme opulences."

Text 78

Neither I, all the demigods, or even His own transcendental forms are as pleasing to Him as His dear devotees. Who can properly glorify the devotees?

Text 79

The Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself proclaims that the inconceivably fortunate Prahlada is the most fortunate of all the devotees.

Text 80

When Hiranyakashipu was ripped apart by the Lord, Lakshmi-devi and all of us were able to see directly the incomparable good fortune of Prahlada.

Text 81

Although Lord Vishnu wished to give him a host of  benedictions one after another, Prahlada never asked for liberation. He only wished for pure devotional service. I bow down to offer my respects to him.

Re: Spiritual realization or mental speculation?

Nityananda!! Gauranga!! Hare Krishna!!

What is more important, hearing each word of the mantra while chanting or thinking of forms, pasttimes, pictures etc while chanting ?

Nityananda!! Gauranga!! Hare Krishna!!

Re: Gauranga Proclaims that Sankirtana is the Best Religion

Nityaananda! Gauraanga! Hare Krishna! Pranams.

Here are some quotations from Vaishnava smriti literature confirming this nice point discussed by Lord Caitanya and His dearmost devotee Shrivasa.

Padma Purane

dhyayan krite yajan yajnais, tretayam dvapare rcayan;
yad apnoti tad apnoti,  kalau sankirtya kesavam.

In the Padma Purana (Uttara-khanda 72.25), it is said:

Whatever is achieved by meditation in Satya-yuga, by the performance of yajna in Treta-yuga or by the worship of Krishnas lotus feet in Dvapara-yuga is also obtained in the Age of Kali simply by chanting the glories of Lord Kesava.

narayana-samhitayam

dvapariyair janair vishnuh, pancaratrais tu kevalaih;
kalau tu nama-matrena, pujyate bhagavan harih.

In the Narayana Samhita, it is said:

In Dvapara-yuga one could satisfy Krishna or Vishnu only by worshiping Him gorgeously according to the pancaratriki system, but in the Age of Kali one can satisfy and worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead Hari simply by chanting the holy name.

krite yad dhyayato vishnum, tretayam yajato makhaih;
dvapare paricaryayam, kalau tad dhari-kirtanat.

In Srimad-Bhagavatam (12.3.52) it is said:

Whatever result was obtained in Satya-yuga by meditating on Vishnu, in Treta-yuga by performing sacrifices and in Dvapara-yuga by serving the Lords lotus feet can also be obtained in Kali-yuga simply by chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.

Nitai-Gaura-Harinama sankirtana yajna - ki jaya!

Your servant; Sarvabhauma das

Re: Greatest Vaishnava

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

Dear Swami Gaurangapada,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

This is really a very fantastic reply. Thank you so much for this. Honestly speaking though I know that Lord Gaura Krishna is supreme and Lord Shiva is a devotee still I am also chanting rounds of Lord Shiva as I am in a very serious material distress. Now after reading this I am sure Lord Shiva will never take me away from Lord Gaura Krishna at the same time I am sure Lord Shiva will free me from my distress as my life has become miserable.

Nityanada! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

Sincerely,
Mihir.

Dear Swami Gaurangapada,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I feel so good to hear that Nityanada and Gauranga Naam will free me from the ten offenses. Infact today is the day when I chanted Nityananda and Gauranga for the first time on my japa beads and I feel very good about it too. However Swamiji, I am not following the 4 regulative principles, then am I qualified to get initaited ?

Thanking you in advance.

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krishna!

Sincerely,
Mihir.
