The reasons why the Lord creates unlimited universes


Dear Devotees,

          Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna! My humble obeisances!

          Lord Gauranga Krishna is a infinite mine of wonders! Even though the material creation is His inferior aspect, it's creation is downright ingenious to the power of infinity!! It is a perfect arrangement to ensure that the souls are ultimately purified and made to reach Him, right down from the sub-atomic, abstract subtle level to the gigantic unlimited infinte universes.

          Of course, one very good question would be : Why did the Lord create unlimited universes? Each is a fully complete entity with no dependence on the others. Souls in one universes cannot travel to other universes. So we can ask : "What  for did the Lord make such a huge arrangement? Why not just have one big super universe for all? Is he not omnipotent?"
          The answer I got is amazing : The following is just the tiny layer of understanding that I was allowed to see which is itself so wonderful.

           Srinath: Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna! I had a doubt as to why the Lord created innumerable universes
Instead of one big material world and I think I got an answer. But I need confirmation This was what came down :

The Lord has innumerable pastimes and all His pastimes in the material world are going on all the time. He wants to manifest Himself only occasionally from time to time to the souls, yet He has to manifest eternally to the conditioned souls so that they can be deliverd. He also has to manifest occasionally so that there is some space between all His incarnations and pastimes. And at the same time He wants to keep delivering all the living entities. So if we had only one universe, we wouldn't have all of this happening only at once.

Swami: Yes

Srinath: By creating unlimited universes, the Lord has made unlimited room so that He can manifest His Supreme Pastimes like Gaura lila, Which are full of mercy

Swami: And also there are some material desires which cannot be satisfied in our universe since our universe has only four dimensions subtle material desires

Srinath: On the large scale, the material creation is that way never bereft of The Lord's mercy?
Whaat? You mean universes like Brahma with 1 million heads?

Swami: Yes, they have 1 million dimensions

Srinath: That means life there must be extremely complicated. Our universe is the smallest one

Swami: Yes Yes

Srinath: But yes that is the other reason. But on the Absolute level, it is basically the best trick to ensure that Lord Gauranga Krishna's pastimes remain eternally available to the material creation

Swami: This material world is made so that the soul can try to the fullest extent to satisfy the desires separate from the Lord and become fully exhausted.
Yes, sure. Also the Lord wanted to be more personal to the souls so He grouped the souls in universes

Srinath: Can souls travel between universes then?

Swami: No

Srinath: Then by all means we have been given the best possible opportunity of all time now

Swami: yes

Srinath: This age of Mahaprabhu

Swami: Yes, that is rare in all universes

Srinath: And souls like me are in a position to take advantage of it. That is even more rare. Practically for all reasons it is safe to say that this is indeed one of a kind opportunity which you devotees have given us. In practice this opportunity with such ideal circumstances won't come again. So I should make the best use of it.

But here is the ultra hilarious answer that will have all devotees rolling on the ground in laughter and ecstasy!! smile smile

Oh there is one more very hilarious reason for many universes. Lord Nityananda is His expansion of Ananta Sesha has unlimited heads. So Lord Gauranga gave each of Lord Nityananda's unlimited heads a job to do so by making each head support a universe and ultimately He makes such an arrangement so that no part of Lord Nityananda would be denied a chance to serve Lord Gauranga Krishna! smile That's how He serves Himself! Complete service...literally smile

On one hand we may say that in order to serve Lord Gauranga Krishna in supporting unlimited universes, Lord Nityananda manifested infinite heads. But actually both are true and eternal. Lord Gauranga Krishna keeps giving unlimited service opportunities for His service and His servants are eternally coming up with outright ingeneous ways of serving Him.

Oh Lord! How wonderful you are at giving devotees service opportunities! Oh Devotees! How wonderful you are to come up with such unlimited ways to serve the Lord. I pray that I should become just another of your servants, serving you by your mercy.

My complexion is like lightning, my dress sparkles with patterns like the midnight stars, I am adorned with various ornaments, and with a camphor tray in my hand I shall fall flat at Shri Rupa Manjari's feet and beg her for the exclusive shelter of Shri Radha's lotus feet.

Shri Rupa Manjari and Shri Ananga Manjari will then take me to the private grove of the most charming Lalita Sakhi, the mistress of Svananda-sukhada-kunja, who is sitting inside perpetually thinking about her service rendered to the divine lotus feet of Radha.

I shall fall flat and offer obeisances at Lalita's feet and she will ask Ananga Manjari to explain my identity.  Ananga Manjari will reply, "This person is an inhabitant of Navadvipa who begs to become your maidservant and thereby serve the Divine Couple."

158 At this, Lalita will become very pleased and say to Ananga Manjari (the personified potency of fresh feminine youth), "Listen, beloved sprout!  Give her a dwelling beside your own grove.  Keep her there and attentively arrange her desired service."
159 "At the time of performing your own service take her along and gradually she will receive the mercy of Shri Radha.  Without the mercy of Radha, have we ever seen anyone attain the service of the Divine Couple?"

Hearing Lalita's words, Ananga Manjari will give me a residence next to her own grove, making me her own maidservant.  At the time of going to serve the Divine Couple, she will be very affectionate and graciously allow me to accompany her as a friend.

Performing my own duties, I shall catch a glimpse of the beautiful Divine Couple in the distance.  And then, perhaps Shrimati Radharani Herself will give me a direct order, show me Her personal mercy, and give me the shade of Her own lotus feet.

I will perpetually remain absorbed in performing that service, and gradually I will become skilful in its execution.  By my expertise, I shall please Radha and Govinda.  As a reward for my services, I will from times to time receive prasad ornaments that They had previously worn...

...My dream suddenly breaks and I shall softly weep and weep.  Gazing back at Shri Pulina, I will cross the river Bhagirathi.  Living in my private grove next to Isodyana (The Lord's Garden) I will worship the greatest treasure - the Divine Couple Shri Shri Radha and Krishna, Who are non different from the moonlike Shri Gauranga.

I will worship Radha and Govinda while staying fixed in my own vows, and shall perpetually gaze upon Radha Kunda and Vrindavan.  Remembering the feet of Ananga Manjari Sakhi, and remaining immersed in the bliss attained by my particular services performed for Their Lordships, I will thereby drown in pure ecstatic prema.

This Bhaktivinoda, the servant of the servants of Lord Shri Krishna Chaitanya, is begging for residence in Navadvipa Dhama.  I am eager for the feet of Rupa Gosvami and Raghunatha Gosvami (Rupa Manjari and Rati Manjari), and from them I anxiously beg to achieve my own desired perfect spiritual body and service.

Chanting Gauranga


Dear Swami Gaurangapada,

Please accept my humble Obeisances.   All glories to Srila Prabhupada! 

Last night, I received another dream.  However, this time I was wondering alone and I happened into the back of the house and inside there was these 7 men were working.  So I started to walk away they started to sing Nityananda, Gauranga and upon hearing this,  I ran back to join in with them.  What joy I had experienced from being in their presence, and they sung songs I didn't know all the words to--which exposed my deficiencies, but they laughed at this and encouraged me to keep going.  It was great!

Well, this morning while doing to rounds as I was chanting Gauranga, all of a sudden as I was chant the Naam I started to chant the Hare Krsna Mantra at the same time in my mind.  This has never happened before, and just before this occurred while I was chanting Gauranga I started calling out to Krishna.  I just could not stop myself.

What is happening?

Does this have any connection with my dream from last night?

Ananga Manjari is a direct expansion of Shrimati Jahnava Devi, the eternal consort of Lord Nityananda Balarama. By praying to Jahnava Devi desire to hear more about Her form of Ananga Manjari may arose within hearth. I heard about book Ananga-manjari-samputika but I am not able to find it. Is this book available on english and is it all right to read it? Is there any other material where we may find description of Srimati Ananga manjari? Jaya Nityananda! Jaya Gauranga!

Tiny tiny parcel of land and space here Neil.

In devotional life if we use what we have (our simple pots and pans, our unique personality and gifts, and some soil etc), using wisely and simply, all will be nice for Sri Krsna I feel. Simple living high thinking ;) As they say Neil, everything is Krsna's anyhow - even us. Karma yoga is non-different to bhakti yoga, according to Srila Prabhupada. Art and cultivation... Each soul is integral and wonderful!

         Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna! My humble pranams!

         What I meant by writing was that in Rupa Gosvami's Nectar of Instruction, enthusiasm and patience are among the very first qualities that a sadhaka must cultivate which are favourable for devotion.

         I am going to be very simple and straightforward here and I hope it is clear : Our thoughts are the starting point of everything from our actions, our moods, our behaviour and right down to our personality. Everything starts with a thought. The thoughts are what influence even our desires. It is a very simple observation.

         Therefore when we allow thoughts of doom and failure to come in our mind, we get disheartened, then we may feel excessively worried, we then give up and lose faith. Cases of depression are one extreme example of negative thoughts dominating.

         In spiritual life therefore, one must keep positive spiritual thoughts. This has nothing to do with material opposites and dualities. This is spiritual positive. Only by tapping into the thought process can we properly use our mind, and consequently all our senses in the Lord's service. Say you're chanting and it's feeling a little painful to force yourself. Just say, "Pain is good! It's pain for the Lord and its good and I love it." That will bring out more sincerity in a person. On the other hand, if we keep thinking, "Why am I doing this? It's pain, it's boring, it's dry...", then we are encouraging insincere desires in the heart. The Holy name is a wish fulfilling tree and the Lord will grant exactly what we're planning on the inside. So if we keep seeing it as boredom, then that is what we'll get!

         This is a fairly benign case, but there are more serious issues where thoughts of cheating in devotion, trying to justify offenses and other things can come in and cause spiritual disaster. If one examines the mind of an offensive chanter, one is sure to find things like, "I'll sin and then I'll chant because God will forgive." So at all times, one has to be careful and watch the thoughts because the thoughts reveal exactly what is there in the heart and by changing the thoughts, the heart can become purified. 

         Therefore one has to take control over the thoughts by voluntarily over-riding them with spiritual thoughts. I am not asking people to fight against the mind. I am just asking them to go to the root and make a small fix there so that a huge deal of trouble can be avoided. How fast we advance depends only on how willing we are. Mukunda for one was forbidden by the Lord to see him for 10 million lifetimes, but he took that to be so positive because he saw only the end, and so the 10 million immediately became 0! That's being positive in an extreme case. Take Shrila Prabhupada. How many obstacles he faced. Only the Lord knows how much difficulty he took for preaching devotion world-wide. Yet whatever happened, nothing could stop him. He was so determined.

           Ultimately it is the Lord's mercy that purifies the heart of all this material dirt. But we should have some room for Him in our heart because devotion, love is totally voluntary and cannot be forced. When it is forced slavery it is not love anymore. So if one wants the mercy of the Lord, then one should make room for Him in the heart. And the only way to do that is to direct our thoughts to the Lord. That only we can do, in spite of all the dirt and material desires. Some effort is needed from our side. Then when we allow the Lord to step in, with His unlimited mercy He immediately gives us His pure love and all the offenses flee forever.

         Devotion is inherently a very very simple process. It is self sufficient. There is no need to make it complicated by adding or modifying things, etc...In this age of mercy it is absurdly simple to reach the Lord. So if we want to advance, first we need to ask ourselves : Do I want devotion or do I want something of my own ideas?  Is there really room for the Lord to enter into my life?

Your post reminds me of something Srila Prabhupada used to say, keeping things simple and practical: for example he used to give instruction like - 'if  you are angry be angry for Krsna, if you are greedy be greedy for Krsna' etc etc.

Many new-age people I meet over the years (and at the time of Srila Prabhupada) are interested in the heavens (demi-god consciousness). And positive positive! Often they will use the term these days 'love and light' as a goodbye and greeting. I respond to them, as a jokester and trickster 'love, light and shadow!;)' With a grin of compassion...

In the realm of psyche and mind one may become aware of very very subtle things; and if honest will notice much flux. Striving for the positive will increase the dynamic of the negative...  For example much materialistic yoga in the west, and now India, teaches kinds of meditation aiming at stillness of prana and psychic phenomena. In my opinion, avoiding the negative and aiming for the positive is not the final goal.... Aiming for the positive and renunciation simply awakens us to the flux (and the negative) more so. If we are fortunate and use buddhi-yoga (transcendental bhakti/consciousness) we will 'centre'...

...'Transcendental consciousness' rises above duality of the mind. Firstly it is 'detached consciousness', secondly it is 'not renunciation' - it is 'bhakti'. It is application, it is joy! Just like Srila Prabhupada pointed out in the above case of sadhana...use what we got, use our disposition. You are correct Srinath, we should not be shaken by the worldly, who judge by the worlds standards, and the conditioned mind. And saying that, if we are enlightened we will not judge them also- simply because we have raised our vision (conscious awareness).

Lets simplify it further, away from the very very subtle area of mind phenomena and the prana (raja yoga). Lets look at  black and white, sad and happy, dark and light etc. Fundamental building blocks of the mahat-tattva. What do we get if we mix black and white?..... We get - 'Grey!'

Interestingly enough as we grow older in wisdom our hair also goes 'grey!' ;) Inconceivable really, that existing in this plane of duality and ""striving""" of the psyche, there is also 'spiritual' consciousness' and ease, the spirit spark. And the super-soul - the master of the body/mind -  is the 'controller and doer' in that plane....

Nature reflects all things for the wise! Nature reflects the turmoil of the human mind - we can see this in degradation and neglect of the ''holy rivers'' and the eco, the fast paced modern society (mind), neglect of good farming and eating.... etc. We can also see reflected in nature 'the spiritual reality'... That spiritual reality is the focus and needed discussion...the cultivating plane...

This reflection of spiritual reality Srila Bhaktivinoda called 'a painting of Krsna'. This beauty is charm! This beauty is transcendent! For example; it is not only our hair that goes 'grey' as we become free of 'moralistic religious striving'... the 'beauty of the storm' and the 'grey monsoon cloud' also becomes evident.... Nature displays her true self. Maha-maya is transformed into 'internal potency' - Yoga-Maya. The servant plane... That is one of the messages of the treatise Sri Krsna Samhita. Bhaktivinoda was a great follower of the Caitanya tradition....

His skin is 'blueish grey'. 'The color of a grey monsoon cloud'. Jai Sri Krsna!

For the simple sadhana devotee, even hell becomes fertile soil for cultivation. Even the spirits are seen as servants...and the foot-stool of the great Godhead is a Serpent! Jai Nitaai! Most kind...

Чак иако уради тако, не може добити жељени резултат. Стога особа треба мантрати Имена Нитааи-Гаура и обожавати их без лажног престижа. У почетку особа треба веома редовно мантрати Свето Име Шри Гаурасундара и потом мантрати Свето Име Господина Нитyананде. На тај начин срце ће постати очишћено од свих нечистих жеља за материјалним уживањем. Онда особа може прићи Вриндавана-дхами да би обожавала Господина Кришну."

Коментар Свами Гаурангападе:

Шрила Прабхупада јасно наводи да се студент почетник без довољно реализација не би требао директно упустити у мантрање Харе Кришна Махамантре без да је прво узео потпуно и веома редовно уточиште Имена Нитyананда и Гауранга.  Чак иако он или она ураде тако, не могу добити жељени резултат мантрања Махамантре који је достизање чисте љубави према Богу, јер особа није узела потребно уточиште Имена Нитyананда и Гауранга. Шрила Прабхупада наставља даље наводећи да особа треба веома редовно и посебно мантрати два Имена Нитyананда и Гауранга да би постала способна да се квалификује да мантра Махамантру и оде у Вриндавана-дхаму да би обожавала Господина Крсну. Певање Панцха-таттва Мантре садржи ова два имена Господина, али  Шрила Прабхупада је посебно нагласио да се Панцха-таттва Мантра не мантра веома редовно наводећи да се не би требала мантрати на бројаници као кругови, већ једино три пута пре почетка киртана, Са друге стране он објашњава да ће веома редовно мантрање два имена Нитyананда и Гауранга брзо оспособити почетника са квалификацијама да при�е Имену, Облику, Забавама и Пребивалишту Њихових Господстава Радха-Крсне.

Ми чврсто верујемо да једноставно певање 20 до 30 пута дневно се не може сматрати за 'веома редовно' као што је подучио Шрила Прабхупада у вези мантрања Имена Нитyананда и Гауранга. Редовно мантрање Крсниних Имена значи мантрати најмање 27,648 Имена Крсне (16 кругова Харе Кришна Махамантра) дневно. Дакле, како веома редовно мантрање Имена Нитyананда и Гауранга може значити да се Она мантрају само 20 или 30 пута дневно? Она се требају мантрати најмање 1000 пута дневно, ако не хиљаде пута или непрекидно. Шрила Прабхупада наводи: "Увек певајте Нитаи-Гаура..." Стога, сви студенти и бхакте Гауранга Дхарме и Гауранга Yоге који практикују науку Бхактиyоге под нашим водством су подучени да дневно мантрају најмање 10 кругова Нитyананда и Гауранга Мантрараја (1000 пута сваку Мантрарају = 2000 Имена Нитyананда и Гауранга дневно) и повећају мантрање Нитyананда и Гауранга Мантрараја до врховног и најмоћнијег нивоа мантрања 10 до 32 до 48 и до 64 до 128 до 192 до 256 кругова сваке Нитyананда и Гауранга Мантрараја дневно као додатак или заједно уз мантрање Харе Кришна Махамантре. Тада ће духовни аспирант веома брзо достићи ниво дневног мантрања без увреда 16 кругова Харе Кришна Махамантре.

Процес мантрања Нитyананда и Гауранга Мантрараја је веома једноставан. Пошто је  Нитyананда Мантрараја пето-слоговна (Ни-тyа-а-на-нда) Халадхара Баларама Мантра, препоручено је да се мантра једна Мантра на једном зрну. Бројаница или мала од 108 зрна се треба држати средином средњег прста десне руке са палцем и на једном зрну треба изговорити једну Мантру. Потом се мала треба повући напред до следећег зрна и следећа Мантра се треба мантрати. На овај начин 108 Мантри се требају изговорити на 108 зрна. То је познато као један круг. Када особа до�е до највећег или меру зрна које представља Свевишњег Господина Лично, особа га не би требала прећи, већ једноставно треба окренути бројаницу и почети следећ круг. Исти процесс се треба поновити за мантрање Гауранга Мантрараја која је четворо-слоговна Гаура Гопала Мантра (Гау-ра-а-нга).

Свака интелигентна особа након што прочита горе наведену изјаву Шрила Прабхупада ће поставити следеће питање: Шта би почетник који нема довољно просветљења и реализација требао да уради пошто није препоручено за њега да директно мантра Харе Кришна Махамантру? Према инструкцији Шрила Прабхупада постоји само једно решење: са једне стране он или она треба веома редовно да мантрају имена Нитyананда и Гауранга, а са друге стране он или она не могу мантрати Панцха-таттва Мантру веома редовно било на бројаници или у киртану. Стога се почетник суочава са великом дилемом у његовом или њеном духовном живоу. Решење ове дилеме је дато од стране Шрила Прабхупада лично у следећа два цитата:

(1) Yога Студент: "...мантрати имена Нитаи-Гауранга пре него што их охрабримо да мантрају више маха-мантру?"
Прабхупада: "Не. Зашто? Сада, каква је разлика, Нитаи-Гауранга и Харе Кришна? Нитаи-Гауранга и Харе Кришна, нема никакве разлике. Нитаи-Гауранга је тако�е веома лепо. Шта год прона�е за Шодно, нека мантра."
(Шрила Прабхупадов разговор у соби са yога студентом посебно у вези Јапе, 14. Март 1975, Иран)

Овај разговор је посебно у вези јапа мантрања Мантри на бројаници. Јога студент не пита само за себе већ тако�е како да проповеда осталима у вези јапе на бројаници. И у свом одговору Шрила Прабхупада препоручује и одобрава мантрање два имена Нитyананда и Гауранга на јапа бројаници (он јасно не спомиње Панцха-таттва Мантру) и наводи да мантрање Нитyананда и Гауранга (било као јапа или киртана) је заправо неразличито од мантрања Харе Кришна Махамантре. Духовни аспирант може мантрати шта год прона�е за сходно. У увредљивом стадијуму необорива је чињеница да су Имена Нитyананда и Гауранга Шоднија и повољнија него Харе Кришна Махамантра. Чак иако су потпуно неразличита једно од другог, једино чисти и самореализовани бхакта ће добити исти резултат мантрајући било које од тих Имена. Бхакта који прави увреде ће добити већу духовну добробит редовним мантрањем Нитyананда и Гауранга који не прихватају било какве увреде и особа постаје веома брзо квалификована да заиста окуси чисту Харе Кришна Махамантру.

(2) "Веома је повољно мантрати имена Шри-Кришна-Чеитања прабху-нитyананда пре мантрања Харе Кришна маха-мантре јер мантрањем ##### ова два имена ##### -Шри-Кришна-цхаитанyа прабху-нитyананда- особа аутоматски постаје екстатична, и ако онда мантра Харе Кришна маха-мантру постаје ослобо�ен увреда." (СП у Цц Ади 8.24 Смисао)

У горњем смислу и тако�е у првом цитату, Шрила Прабхупада посебно спомиње да два света имена Господина Гауранге и Господина Нитyананде се требају мантрати веома редовно пре мантрања Харе Кришна Махамантре. Онима који наглашавају да и Панцха-таттва Мантра укључује два имена Господина, морамо указати да је Шрила Прабхупада више од једном зауставио редовно мантрање Панцха-таттва Мантре на јапи, као и у киртану. Није желео да се кругови Панцха-таттва Мантре мантрају на бројаници и тако�е је желео да се Панцха-таттва Мантра пева три пута једино пре почетка киртана. Али у вези два света имена Нитyананда и Гауранга која су веродостојне Мантрараје из списа, нема такве негативне наредбе у вези јапе или киртана било где у инструкцијама гуруа, садхуа или Шастра. Чак шта више, Шрила Прабхупада је препоручио  студенту yоге да је мантрање  имена Нитyананда и Гауранга на бројаници тако�е веома лепо. Стога сви следбеници Шрила Прабхупада тако�е треба да прихвате да је мантрање Нитyананда и Гауранга тако�е веома лепо и у најмању руку не би требали да покушавају да зауставе оне који мантрају ова два најповољнија Имена Господина као додатак Харе Кришна Махамантри чак иако лично нису способни да их мантрају из неког разлога.

Dear Gurudeva, I chanted mantra for Jahnava devi, as you told me, and this poem become manifested within my hearth by your mercy. Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna

Srimati Jahnava devi vandana - Prayer to Srimati Jahnava devi

refrain:

O friends! Please understand!
Without the mercy of Srimati Jahnava Devi no one
is able to cross over the ocean of material life.

1.
O Jahnava devi! Without your mercy no one  can
obtain the service of Nityananda Prabhu and enter
into the loving service of Lord Gauranga and
Radha Krishna in Vrindavan-dham.

2.
O Jahnava Ishvari! Shelter of your lotus feet are
my only hope! Without your mercy how I will be
able to get mercy of Lord Nityananda, whose Name
is most confidential secret of all times.

3.
O Nityananda-priya! Please be merciful upon me.
You are always floating in ocean of transcendental
bliss of pure love for Lord Nityananda!O Mother of
devotion, I am offering my obeisances unto you
again and again.

4.
Nitaai is yours and you are Nitaai's.
by seeing me so helpless, please give me shadow of your lotus feet.
By remembering lotus feet of my spiritual master,
Tridandi Bhikshu Shrila Bhaktiratna Sadhu Swami Gaurangapada,
this wrecked Ishana Thakura das is able to sing prayers to
Srimati Jahnavi devi.
