Re: Life Has Become so Cheap

Nityananda! Gaurannga! Hare Krishna!
Dandavats and obeissances.

Also violent video games are very popular. Here in the United States video games are very very popular with people under the age of 35 and first person shooting games are the most popular. People may become desensitized with killing because of the movies, tv shows, video games, etc.

Life Has Become so Cheap

Nityaananda!! Gauraanga!! Hare Krishna!! It is very sad to hear of so many people being killed by random shootings. A person who has no history of violence just comes out and begins spraying bullets on other people in public. Where do you think this pre-mediated action is coming from? It is the direct implementation of the extreme violence, people are seeing on TV and Movies. Violence is misunderstood as power. According to the Vedas, you become what you associate with. The subtle consciousness gradually becomes violent by seeing such things and then it manifests in action. And after it happens, all others can only give their condolences. But they don't even want to acknowledge the cause for it what to speak of doing something about it. Some statistics from the Screentime.org are as follows:

Number of murders seen on TV or movies by the time an average child finishes elementary school in USA: 8,000
Number of violent acts seen on TV or movies by age 18 in USA: 200,000
Percentage of Americans who believe TV or movie violence helps precipitate real life mayhem: 79%
Percentage devoted to media stories about crime, disaster and war: 53.8%

In the ancient Vedic times, death was a very serious thing. Nowadays death has become a normal unnoticeable event. This is the symptom of Kali Yuga. Since there is no spiritual quality to one's life, death has become so cheap and widespread. All the channels of broadcast should be used to telecast bonafide spiritual programs which promote peace, happiness, health, well-being and spiritual happiness by authorized Mantra Meditation. Unless we learn to love God by chanting His primary Holy Names daily, we will never become free from our violent and offensive natures and never be able to attain peace and happiness.

Re: We should always treat others in the way we expect them to treat us.

"Familiarity breeds contempt" is a symptom of mundane relationships, not spiritual relationships with Guru and Vaishnavas. In Bhakti Sanga, the propensity to find faults should be given up totally and one should get inspired by only the good devotional qualities of other devotees. If one finds many faults in a devotee's character, then one should go away from his or her association but one should not criticize or be too much judgemental of that devotee. If the association is purely spiritual, then one will feel more bliss as one associates or knows one's Guru and the devotees more and more instead of contempt which is found in mundane relationships. So if we feel contempt in spiritual association, the fault likes with us not the person whom we feel contempt towards. Nityaananda!! Gauraanga!! Hare Krishna!!

Dear Gurudev,

Nityaananda ! Gauraanga ! Hare Krishna !

Dandavat Pranaams.

Shrila Prabhupada has warned us about ' Familiarity breeds contempt ' which means that the more we associate with the same devotees the more we start finding faults with them.

May be this is because initially when we don't know the devotee very well we talk very formally and with a lot of respect but after we associate with the same devotee for a very long time we become very friendly in talking and may be thats the time when all the fault finding comes in. I have personally experienced this 3 years back. Initially I and some close friend devotees talked with each other very formally and with a lot of respect but as we got to know each other better we became very friendly and soon we both started finding faults with each other. The best way to treat a Vaishnav with respect is to obey Shrila Prabhupada's order i.e the more we associate with the same devotees the more we start finding faults with them.

Mihir.

Re: Chanting Hare Krishna offenselessly

Nityaananda!! Gauraanga!! Hare Krishna!! According to Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata, even the Hari Naama Guru, however powerful he or she is, cannot help if the disciple is deliberately committing the ten offenses, especially criticism of the devotees. The Guru may barely be able to protect oneself due to the offenses of the disciple if the Guru and disciple are not chanting Nityaananda Gauraanga Naama which destroy the ten offenses.

The disciples will see the Pastimes to the extent his or her chanting is offenseless. Theoretically those devotees who chant only Hare Krishna and those who chant Nityaananda Gauraanga along with Hare Krishna are on the same level because They are the Names of the same Lord, but according to the scriptures, those who chant at least a 1000 or more Names of Nityaananda Gauraanga during the day along with the Hare Krishna Mahaamantra, have a faster chance to attan the stage of offenesless chanting of the Lord's Names and witness the Pastimes of the Lord in their hearts.

Chanting Hare Krishna offenselessly

Dear Gurudev and devotees,

Nityananda ! Gauranga ! Hare Krishna !

Dandavat Pranaams.

There has been a question in my mind since a lot of months. Chanting of Nityaananda Gauraanga Naam is required to burn the offenses in our heart so that we can chant Hare Krishna without offenses. This is because Hare Krishna can burn sins and not offenses. Thus a person who chants only Hare Krishna may derive bliss while chanting but is not able to get glimpses of the Lords forms and past times.

However when a person is initiated in the Hare Krishna Mahamantra then the guru accepts the disciples offenses on him thus he makes the disciple qualified to chant the Hare Krishna mahamantra without offenses. If this is the case then it seems that even such a devotee should be able to see the glimpses of the Lord's Forms and Pastimes shown to him by the Paramatma according to his purification and ofcourse after he becomes a perfected soul then the original Lords enter his heart. May be this could be the reason why Bhaktivinod Thakur said that a person who chants Hare Krishna or Gauraanga  are on the same level.

Dear Guruji, I really request you to guide me whether what I have understood is right or wrong ?

ys,
Mihir.

Re: Bliss and The Striving Body - my healing (please read)

Nityananda! Gauranga! Hare Krsna!

Dear Mihir, one of the most essential realizations in transcendental spiritual cultivation is to not identify as the body and mind, but instead identify as spirit spark - the symptom being consciousness.

Some years back I used to tell friends, 'we are not these bodies and minds, we are spirit soul!' So one friend went to his work place and told all his work mates, 'we are not these minds!' His work mates gave him a strange look, and said, 'mate! you have lost the plot'. lol

Theoretically it is ok to know something, but we have to realize it. And a key to realizing we are not these minds, is non-attachment! This will be a gradual awakening for the sincere practicioner of yoga. But saying that, non-attachment is not renunciation or denial - for the skillful bhakti yogi. By no means, for such a soul, skillful bhakti yoga is a life of application. We need to 'raise ourselves' 'gradually' to the qualification to be swanlike, to be able to extract the fragrant essence of things (in Krsna consciousness) as a pleasing offering to our Lord.

Each of us is unique, and by the guidance of, Guru external and Guru within the heart, we will be guided by buddhi-yoga how to do this. Srila Prabhupada has said buddhi-yoga is non-different to bhakti-yoga. Each of us has a unique mind, no two are alike, so the individual practice and application (dovetailing) will need to be discerned in 'wisdom-buddhi'. For example devotees came to Srila Prabhupada onetime and said, 'how do we stop this chronic alcoholic drinking alcohol?' Srila Prabhupada said, 'get him to offer his alcoholic drinks to Krsna! He will gradually be purified and able to see!' Or you could say, eventually the mode of ignorance will leave him and he will no longer be 'blind'.

As we progress in sadhana and development of 'constant awareness of God (in all things)' we may possibly enter more subtle states of being, coming closer to our 'original consciousness'. As followers of Sri Caitanya our original consciousness is Krsna consciousness - not other subtle realms. For very fortunate souls this entails remeberance of the Lord's form, pastimes, associates etc. This has been the recomended process...

For someone like myself Mihir, I am not so fortunate to be that simple and pure, as JagGaura Prabhu has pointed out. But this chanting and remembering is the process  to take up if we are wise - the express train back home ;) Siddhis may come, awareness of ghosts, demigods, all these things may come, but we are recommended to 'not be attached to the subtle body', in other words not to identify ourselves as it - even Patanjali alludes to this final hurdle. As JagGaura has said so wisely, and as Srila Gurudeva has said so wisely...simply chant. Simply adore Sri GauraKrsna!

We are not called to repress anything, and cover with false renunciation - but we are called to be wise and discerning - and utilize our nature in service. If we falsely renounce and take up someone elses duty (for example Arjuna's not wishing to fight), in due course we will be forced to act. This is the message of Gita, skill in work and devotion. If we repress, it will eventually rise again...instead we process and use our God given intelligence (in relation to God).

As far as I have realized anyhow. Dovetailing. Only if we were simple, and practiced Naam yoga - hearing, chanting, remembering, becoming friends, worshipping the Lotus feet, offering prayers, and full self surrender. This can only be attained in the association of simple and pure devotees.

y.s. Nava.
