Re: Good Eating Habits in Ayurveda

bhagavad gita hidden treasure by Swami B.R. Sridhar Maharaj   chapter 17

7 According to the three modes of material nature, there are also three preferences of food. In the same way, there are three kinds of sacrifice, three kinds of austerity, and three kinds of charity. Now hear of all these.
8 Edible or offerable foods which increase longevity, zeal, strength, health, happiness and satisfaction, and which are succulent, milky, wholesome, and attractive these are dear to persons of the nature of goodness.
9 Edibles dear to persons of passionate nature are too bitter (nimba, etc.), too sour, too salty, too hot, too pungent (chili pepper, etc,) too dry (dry-roasted chick-peas, etc.), and too heating (mustard seed, etc.). Such foods cause unhappiness, distress, and disease.
10 Such food is dear to the ignorant: food which is cold, due to being cooked more than three hours before; food which is tasteless, exudes a bad odor, or was cooked the day before; the remnants of others (with the exception of remnants left by one's guru); and impure foodstuffs (such as meat, wine, and onions).

Re: Are deities that are made of resin bona fide

Carbonized chicken feather fibers, for example, can store hydrogen at least as well as carbon nanotubes or metal hydrides, or even better. The difference between carbonized chicken feathers and the other two is that making a 20 gallon carbon nanotube tank would cost $5.5 million, making it from metal hydrides would cost $30,000, and from chicken feathers only $200. Which one would you choose?

Richard P. Wool, Ph.D., professor of chemical engineering and director of the Affordable Composites from

vaisnavas are beyond sattvic.

to make resin objects you need fiber

Renewable Resources program at the University of Delaware in Newark, estimates that it would take a 75-gallon tank to go 300 miles in a car using carbonized chicken feather fibers to store hydrogen. He says his team is working to improve that range.

The problem with hydrogen as a gas or liquid is its density is too low, Wool says. Using currently available technology, if you had a 20-gallon tank and filled it with hydrogen at typical room temperature and pressure, you could drive about a mile. When we started we didnt know how well carbonized chicken feathers would work for hydrogen storage, but we certainly suspected we could do a lot better than that.

Its a known fact that hydrogen is hard to store, and storing it at high pressures require low temperatures. Carbonized chicken feathers might just do that. In addition to this, chicken feathers are abundant: imagine the huge quantities that are thrown away each year from chicken farms - its one of the outputs of an immense industry that could be put to use in the favor of clean air. Plus, they could be used in making storm-proof rooftops, lightweight car parts, or ecological computer circuit boards. How about that?

Re: Siddhis and the Power to Perform Mystical Deeds

Dear prabhu,

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna! My humble pranams!

If it is absolutely necessary to use siddhis, then and only then do devotees actually use them. Devotees have all mystic perfections far greater than any mystic yogis, they just never use them. Devotees are very simple and humble by nature and they never fall to the lure of heroic achievements. Atleast that is my experience from reading and other  association. The only one place where they do use them is when the Lord wants them to do it and not otherwise.

My thanks to you for raising another point. Also after being repeatedly kicked by maya, I have come to the conclusion that whenever I give a little room to some material desire by saying that it won't affect my devotion, unfortunately that is exactly where I fell in headfirst. I have had many bitter lessons in the process seeing it in myself and others too. I am still just trying to get back after one such extremely painful beating session and this time to me whenever I justify some materialistic desires by saying that my bhakti won't get affected by a little bit of this, it's like opening the door to maya and saying, "Oh please come in very happily and plunder me to pieces."

Now-a-days so many facilities have been created that have eliminated the need for many of those siddhis. For eg. the aeroplanes. In any case, the real siddhi for the jiva soul is only to become a servant of the servants. That is the only siddhi for fallen souls like me. The rest of those siddhis simply come in the way of making us realise that we are daasanudaasas of the Lord.

Listening and reading

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krsna
All glories to SwamiGaurangapada!
All glories to Srilla Prabhupada!
All glories to Nitaai and Gaura Naam!

Is listening of mp3 devotional files ( lectures and recorded books) consider same as reading? I am asking this because sometimes it is not possiable to find "free time' to simply sit and read for 45 or more minutes and on that way study vaisnava literature. I found very helpfull listening mp3 files while walking to job, or evan while cooking or doing some other duties. So if we sometimes may not find time to phisicaly sit and read books is listening of vaisnava books also consider same as reading?

Thank you so much,
Your servant, Ishana Thakura das

(GERMAN) 10.

Prayer to Nityananda

Prayer to Nityananda

Curious, the mind took me away,
Away from Him-
The Paramatma
The Allatractive.

The mind became "my mind",
The body became "my body".
Not hearing His sweet voice,
Confused in the empty silence.

Diving deeper into the labyrinth called Maya,
With angles so sharp.
The body hurts.
I feel lost.

Every labyrinth has an end
Which leads to another place,
But I seem to forgot Him
and the rute to His Lotus feet.

So, please, Nityananda
Let me hear Your sweet Name
Let me remember that sweet sound
By chanting : Nityananda, Nityananda, Nityananda, Nityananda,
Gauranga, Gauranga, Gauranga, Gauranga, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
