What role does the worship of Lord Narasimha play in our Sampradaya and in the spiritual life of a devotee of Lords Nityananda Gauranga and Radha-Krishna?
The role of Lord Nrisingha in our Bhajana and our mood and prayers we should offer to Him are described in these verses by Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura:
e dusta hrdaye kama adi ripu chaya, kutinati pratisthasha sathya sada raya
hrdaya-sodhana ara krsnera vasana, nrsimha-carane mora ei to' kamana (36)
"Within my sinful heart the six enemies headed by lust perpetually reside, as well as duplicity, the desire for fame, plus sheer cunning. At the lotus feet of Lord Nrsimha, I hope that He will mercifully purify my heart and give me the desire to serve Lord Gaura Krishna."
kandiya, nrsimha-pade magibo kakhana, niraapade navadvipe jugala-bhajana
bhaya bhaya pay a yara darshane se hari, prasanna hoibo kabe more daya kori՛՜ (37)
"Weeping, I will beg at the lotus feet of Lord Nrsimha for the benediction of worshipping Radha and Krishna in Navadvipa, perfectly safe and free from all difficulties. When will this Lord Hari, Whose terrible form strikes fear into fear itself, ever become pleased and show me His mercy?
yadyapi bhrtsana murti dusta-jiva-prati, prahladadi krishna-bhakta-jane bhadra ati
kabe va prasanna ho 'ye sa-krpa-vacane, nirbhaya koribe ei mudha akinchane (38)
"Even though Lord Nrsingha is terrifying toward the sinful souls, He offers great auspiciousness unto the devotees of Lord Gaura Krishna headed by Prahlada Maharaja. When will He be pleased to speak words of compassion unto me, a worthless fool, and thereby make me fearless?"
svacchande baiso he vatsa shri-gauranga-dhame, jugala-bhajana hau, rati hau name
mama bhakta-krpa-bale vighna jabe dura, suddha citte bhaj'o radha-krishna-rasa-pura (39)
Lord Nrisingha will say to me, "Dear child! Sit down freely and live happily here in Shri Gauraanga Dhama. May you nicely worship he Divine Couple, and may you develop loving attachment for Their holy names. By the mercy of My devotees, all obstacles are cast far away. With a purified heart, just perform the worship of Radha and Krishna, for such worship overflows with sweet nectar."
Why not to pray always to the Fully Complete Original Lord Gauranga-Krishna for some special function of His Other Incarnation, when in Himself is all included?
The fully complete Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu Himself prayed to Lord Nrisingha before He entered into the Jagannatha temple every day and also at the Shanta Nrisingha temple here in Puri Dhaama and personally sang the song..ito nrisinghah... The main purpose of Lord Gaura's praying to Lord Nrisingha is to show us that even though we know that Lord Gauranga Krishna is the original Avataari, we should not neglect or ignore or minimize the pastimes of at least the two other primary Vishnu Tattva forms like Lord Raamachandra and Lord Nrisingha. Also Shrila Prahlada Maharaja excelled in Smarana Bhakti (Remembrance) which is the life and soul of all the nine kinds of Bhakti so the pastimes of Lord Nrisingha and remembering Shrila Prahlada assumes a greater significance for us.
That said, Matus, I can understand your mood. Shrila Shrivasa Thakura was meditating on Lord Nrisingha in a closed room and Lord Gaura opened it and repeatedly asked him about whom is he meditating on when He Himself is personally there in Navadvipa. Then Lord Gaura accepted His form of Nrisingha and ran in the streets on Navadvipa to create fear in the hearts of those who were oppressing the devotees. You can meditate on this pastime of Gaura Nrisingha. Also we know that Lord Nrisingha is a servant of Lord Gauranga from the pastime when He came and sat (scratched) on the chest of the Kazi after the Kazi tried to stop the sankirtana of Lord Gaura by breaking the mridanga (drum). So if someone has staunch faith in the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Krishna, then nothing else is required. But remembering and praying to Lord Nrisingha and Shrila Prahlada for 10-15 minutes a day by singing their prayers, is easily performed. As Gaudiya Vaishnavas, we meditate on the pastimes of Shri Shri Nitaai Gaura and Shri Shri Radha Krishna throughout the day and that remains our primary meditation. I hope this helps.
Daaso'smi, BR Sadhu Swami Gaurangapada.
