Re: how to defeat the Atheist
Some of Srila Prabhupada quotes about atheists
And those who are dvishat, atheist, upeksha, don't go there, save yourself.
the last quote I like is one from Hari Sauri das transcendental diary

We may, however, defy the existence of God. Atheist class of men, demons, they always defy, "Who is God? I am God." But everyone is under the control of time factor. The time factor, in due course, will bring him death. So at that time, how one can deny the existence of God? Mrityuh sarva-haras caham [Bg. 10.34]. Krishna says that "I am death, and My business is to take away everything." Mrityuh sarva-haras caham. So time factor will take away everything, what we create with these twenty-four elements. So time is very strong, kala. However we may defy the existence of God, the time factor is there. We have to accept it. And it is said, kalam eke yato bhayam. And because we are under the control of the time at the present moment in material existence, therefore there is bhayam. Bhayam means ultimately death. Bhayam. Bhayam dvitiyabhinivesatah syad isad apetasya viparyayo 'smritih.
The description of bhayam is given in the Bhagavatam. What is this bhayam, fearfulness? Bhayam, isad apetasya viparyayo 'smritih: "Those who have forgotten the Supreme Lord and have identified themselves with this material world, for them, the fearfulness is there."

Prabhupada requested Svarupa Damodara prabhu, who is here with other members of the newly formed Bhaktivedanta InstituteSadaputa and Madhava prabhusto speak a few words about the scientific view of the Absolute before he himself lectured.
A short, round-faced brahmacari from Manipur, India, with a doctorate in biology, Svarupa Damodara told his attentive audience that science accepts certain axioms [propositions assumed without proof for the sake of studying their consequences] in physics, chemistry and mathematics. From these, scientists produce their theories. Similarly, he explained that our Krishna conscious scientists say the basic prerequisite to understand the difference between life and matter is to have some understanding of the Absolute Truth. By accepting the axiom of the Absolute Truth as the source of everything, the basic meaning of God and the difference between life and matter can be realized.
Srila Prabhupada was satisfied with his statement, and in his own short speech he stressed that the Absolute Truth cannot be understood by mental speculation. Quoting the Brahma-samhita, he told us that even if we travel at the speed of the mind for millions of years, we still will not be able to understand the Absolute Truth. The specific nature of the Absolute Truth is that it can only be understood by the grace of the Absolute Truth itself which is revealed to us in the Vedas and by the acaryas. "The expansion of the Absolute Truth how it is working, Krishna summarized before Arjuna. This material world, we see only one universe to our vision. Similarly, there are millions of universes and in each universe there are millions of planets, and each planet is different from here. That is God's creation. So all this together, ekamsena sthito jagat, this material world is one-fourth part exhibition of God's creation. And three-fourths' part is in the Vaikunthaloka, spiritual world. So by speculation, by our research, it is impossible, but we can get a glimpse of knowledge of the Absolute Truth when we receive it through the Absolute Truth, Krishna. That is Krishna consciousness movement. Thank you very
much."

One of the women said that people who are convinced that they already have a revelation or experience that is assuring them of eternal life, are not very open to hear.
Again, Srila Prabhupada was practical. "If they are not open to hear about Krishna, then don't waste your time. When in the lower stage of devotional service, he cannot become preacher. When he's in a little upper, second stage, he can become preacher. So preacher has to see four things. First of all God, isvara, and tad-adhina, and those who are devotees. God, His devotees and balisa, innocent. He does not know anything. So three, God, devotee and the innocent. And dvishat, envious, atheist class. He has to see four things, and he has to deal with four persons differently. With God, isvare prema, how to advance my love for God, these dealings. Prema maitri, and to the devotees, we have to make friendship with them. And to the innocent, we have to preach, kripa. 'Oh, here is an innocent person, he does not know, he's eager to learn.' There teaching is required. Teaching, you cannot teach God or you cannot teach God's devotees. But you can teach the innocent. And those who are dvishat, atheist, upeksha, don't go there, save yourself. These are the four things.
"So when one is not open to hear, then don't bother yourself. That requires very strong preacher to convince the atheist class, provided he is reasonable also. If he's stubborn, obstinate, then it is also very difficult. But preaching is meant, innocent, that one who is actually sincere but he does not know what is God,

Hamsaduta's letter contained news of a debate he was having with a famous atheist in Colombo, a Dr. Kovoor. As soon as Tamala Krishna began to read the letter, however, Prabhupada asked to hear Dr. Kovoor's response. Tamala Krishna then began reading from a news clipping enclosed in the letter.
"Das and Swami asked whether scientists can make a chicken to come out of a plastic egg," Tamala Krishna read. "I do not know whether they are aware that scientists have made over ten elements, such as fermium, plutonium, einsteinium-"
Prabhupada interrupted, "Rascal. You are simply producing empty sound. Where is the chicken, rascal? The chicken, the hen, is better than the scientist. She has produced another egg within a week. You simply say this and that, this and that, this and that, that's all. What is your value? We don't give you any value. You are less important than the chicken."
Tamala Krishna resumed reading: "We have created over ten elements that even God-"
Again Prabhupada interrupted. "Who cares for your creation? Without your creation the egg is there."
"No, he says," Tamala Krishna went back to reading the text, "even God could not create them, because He did not know the technology involved in making them."
"God kicks on your mouth," said Prabhupada. "He doesn't require to take your creation. Without your creation He can do everything. God kicks on your mouth with shoes. Talkative nonsense. Tell him like that."
"I'm sure Hamsaduta did," said Tamala Krishna. "Next we'll read his reply. Anyway, the scientist goes on, "Are these two men aware of the success of the Sri Lanka scientist Dr-' "
Prabhupada: "Who cares of his scientists?"
""The Nobel Prize-winner in synthesizing amino acids-'"
"Nobel Prize-winner," scoffed Srila Prabhupada. "Another rascal has given him a Nobel Prize. He is a rascal, and another rascal has given. Suri-sakshi matta. In a liquor house the witness is a drunkard. If there is an incident within the liquor shop and the proprietor of the liquor shop has brought some witnesses, but all of them are drunkards-what is the value of that? As soon as you are drunkard, immediately you are rejected."
Tamala Krishna read on, and Prabhupada continued to interrupt him at almost every sentence. The devotees had not seen Prabhupada so fiery in weeks. When Tamala Krishna read Hamsaduta's reply, Prabhupada was pleased to see how many of the same points his disciple had made. "He is putting very strong arguments," said Prabhupada. "This is preaching!"

transcendental diary vol 3: june-august 76 London
Hari Sauri das elder brother, Brian, studied marine biology at Bangor University. He was a typical skeptic scientist and we had a friendly debate as we walked the grounds. He was a tough nut, unwilling to suspend his absolute trust in his own mind and senses in order to venture into the higher realm of revelation and surrender to God. At one point I explained that God, Krishna, was an objective reality, regardless of whether we understand Him or not. He told me that as far as he was concerned, it was all just a question of what you believe. "If you believe there is a God, fine. If you don't believe there is a God, fine."
He was stumped when I told him, "Its not a question of belief. It is a fact. You might not believe that someone on the other side of the world in Russia is making an atom bomb, and you can go on living in your own little world. But if he drops it on your head then what is the value of your belief? You'll be forced to accept, like it or not."
At another point he rapped his knuckles on the wooden staircase bannister and told me, "Look, I believe in whatever you can touch, or see, or smell, or perceive with your senses. That is real. There's nothing beyond that."
Again I easily defeated his argument with some commonsense logic learned from Srila Prabhupada. "Do I have a mind?" I asked him. "You can't see it, you can't touch it, you can't smell it, you can't hear it and you can't taste it. But you know I have a mind, and so you do too. There are many things beyond your senses and to know about them you have to hear from an authority. You will never understand them with your limited faculties."
