Q. by Bhushan Nityananda dasa

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna
Gurudeva please accept my humble dandavats at your lotus feet
humble obiesances at lotus feet of Vaishnavas

Thank you so much for Radhasthami videos
A question came in my mind when i saw the videos.

Since Shri Radharanis holy name is Gaurangii, why are offenses applicable to Shrimati Radharanis holy name?
Those who directly read Radha Krishnas pastimes why arent they purified?

thank you so much,
aspiring to be humble servant

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna

Answer by Swami Gaurangapada:

Gauraangi + Krishna = Gauraanga

Though Gaurangi has the almost all syllables like Gauranga accept the last one, still that one syllable specifically denotes either Gauranga Tattva or Radha Tattva. Though Lord Gauranga and Shri Shri Radha Krishna are the same non-different Tattva still we understand that Gauranga Tattva is more merciful with respect to the mercy given specifically to the conditioned and offensive souls. Perfected souls receive the same mercy from both the Tattvas, Their Names, Abodes and Pastimes.

Radha Naam is extremely pleasing to Lord Krishna just like Nityaananda Gauraanga Naam, even more pleasing to Him than the chanting of His own Name. That is why we chant Hare Krishna, not Krishna Krishna only, Hare being the Name of Radha. Since Radha Krishna Tattva is not fully approachable by and accessible to offensive conditioned souls, Radha Naam is also in the same category. Thus one needs to accept shelter of chanting Nityananda Gauranga Naam to approach Radha Naam and Hare Krishna Naam. There is other shortcut for this.

Those who read or hear the intimate pastimes of Shri Shri Radha Krishna's with lust in their hearts may commit offenses (it maybe even on a subtle level, not visibly) against the pristinely pure Radha Krishna Tattva because of approaching this confidential Tattva without waiting for proper qualification. This offense in some way may negatively effect the spiritual benefits they may receive by reading or hearing Shri Shri Radha Krishna's intimate Pastimes and Names and thus they may not feel any spiritual advancement or if they are very lusty then it may lead to their fall down also. Thus the safest method is to gradually approach Radha Krishna Naam and Lila via the magnanimously merciful Names, Pastimes, Associates and Abodes of Lords Nityananda and Gauranga.

Daaso'smi, Swami Gaurangapada.

The Glories of the Vaishnavas

From Shrila Jagadananda Pandita's Prema Vivarta, translated by Sarvabhavana dasa.

Devotional and places of pilgrimage

A person who goes to a place of pilgrimage only for taking a bath in holy rivers and worships the deity, whom he considers to be made of stone, will take a very long time to develop true religious sentiments.

On the other hand, as soon as one sees a pure devotee of the Lord, his heart is cleansed of all unwanted material desires. He is put into touch with the highest objective of life, and transcendental devotional service dawns within his heart like the rising morning sun that dissipates all darkness.

Associating with a pure devotee

After many births, when the living entity receives the causeless mercy of the Supreme Lord, he comes into contact with a pure devotee of the Lord and by this association he becomes gradually free from the material disease.

The pure devotee purifies the conditioned soul's heart and then he understands unequivocally that Lord Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and the Lord of all other lords.

The kanistha-adhikari neophyte devotee

A neophyte devotee is one who has received formal initiation from a spiritual master and worships the Deity form of the Lord strictly adhering to rules and regulations. He cannot distinguish between an intermediate devotee and a pure devotee. He does not know how to properly respect a pure, elevated devotee of the Lord.

The madhyama-adhikari intermediate devotee

An intermediate devotee is one who has developed love for the Supreme Lord Krishna, is affectionate and friendly to the Lord's devotees, is compassionate to the innocent and avoids the association of envious non-devotees. ery soon, on the strength of his devotional service and Krishna's mercy, an intermediate devotee becomes a first class devotee or uttama-adhikari.

The uttama-adhikari first class devotee

According to the instructions of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a first class or pure devotee of the Lord is one who sees Krishna in every living entity and sees every living entity as part and parcel of the Supreme Lord. He is completely free from envy, anger or hate, and he has no friends or enemies. He is spiritually highly enlightened and is best amongst the Lord's devotees.

The best of the first class devotees utilises his senses and things of this material world in executing pure devotional service. Free from the vices of greed, hate, anger, etc. he constantly perceives the Supreme Lord and His energies manifest everywhere.

The wise devotee spends his days remembering and meditating on Lord Krishna's pastimes. He is no longer deluded by the temporary nature of mundane life and material duties. He is free from the urges of his body and sense, mind and material intelligence, and he is transcendental to the dualities of birth and death, fear, hunger and thirst.

One whose heart has become the permanent abode of Lord Krishna, the son of Mother Yasoda, executes his duties only to maintain the body. He cleanses his heart of any desire to engage in fruitive activities. Such is the process of pure devotional service.

Devotee is free from all material designations

The natural propensity for one who is in the material concept of life is to be attracted to speculative knowledge, fruitive activities and the designations of caste and social order. When the pure soul begins associating with the body, he develops the mood of false identification, such as 'me' and 'mine'. But one who is free from such false identification is to be considered an eternally liberated soul and dear to the Supreme Lord Hari.

He who is free from possessiveness and is completely detached from material things does not make bodily distinctions like 'you' and 'me', which create imaginary friends and enemies. One who looks equally upon all living entities, making no distinctions between them, is an equiposed person, free from anxiety. He is certainly to be counted amongst the best of the devotees of the Lord.

He never leaves the shelter of the Lord's lotus feet, even if he is offered all the opulences of the entire universe in exchange. The Lord's lotus feet are the most coveted object of the demigods and sages. Never for a single moment does he forget the lotus feet of Shri Krishna, he is foremost amongst the pure devotees of the Lord, and he is always in a blissful state of consciousness.

Devotee is free from the threefold miseries

One who comes into contact with Lord Krishna's lotus feet has extinguished the fire of material desire within his heart by the soothing, irridescent rays emanating from the moonlike nails of the Lord's lotus feet. Why should he crave for the conflagration of material existence when his heart can always remain cool under the comforting shade of the Lord's lotus feet?

Other symptoms of a firs-class devotee

Once the devotee fastens Lord Krishna's lotus feet with the bonds of love, the Supreme Lord can never leave the throne of his heart. A first-class devotee of the Lord is automatically free from all duties and responsibilities, because he is wholly surrendered to the holy name of the Lord. Even in an unconscious state, he utters the Lord's name purely.

One who understands the temporary nature of material duties and responsibilities, who leaves all material activities and takes complete shelter of Krishna's lotus feet is certainly a first-class, elevated devotee and is very rarely found. The devotee engaged in devotional service, fully cognisant of the transcendental truth about Lord Krishna's original form, holy name, pure devotees and the process of devotional service, is indeed foremost amongst the Vaishnavas.

One who worships the Supreme Lord and His holy name with undivided faith, knowing Them to be non-different, although he does not understand the intricacies of his own spiritual identity, is also to be considered a very elevated, first-class Vaishnava. This is Lord Chaitanya's opinion.

Realizations on the Bus

By Bhushan Nityananda dasa

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna
All Glories to Shrila Vrindavana das Thakura
All Glories to Shrila Prabhupada
Gurudeva please accept my humble dandavats at your lotus feet
dandavats at lotus feet of all devotees

I read the post of Shrila Prabhupada on writing realizations, so I decided that I should write, I am totally unqualified and neophyte and ignorant so I beg the readers to forgive my mistakes and offenses My father had come to visit me from India. He wanted to go to see Niagara falls, I was afraid how would he go alone, he might get lost, so I thought of accompanying him.

On the bus unfortunately i got the seat right under the lcd screen.I was chanting and they started the movie. And I was distracted, but I did not want to stop chanting and instead watch movie. I started asking, oh my why am i in this place, i shouldnt be here. Here in usa, sometimes due to materialism i wonder why am i in this place, i should be in temple. But I remebered Gurudevas words that by holy names one can remeber Lordships easily.

So I did not stop chanting, I put more effort and was fighting with my mind, which was saying give up stop chanting, submit to the movie. but due to Gurudevas mercy I continued to chant , my mind was still distracted, but slowly and steadily I could focus on chanting and thus continuing, after some hours I became blissfull in remeberance of Lord Gauranga Krishna.

So many times, I was in a very bad situation; like always against some kind of temptation, where my mind always says go for it, forget Nitai Gaura, I cannot artificially supress it, but due to Lord Nityananda's mercy , i remembered Gurudevas instruction and instead of falling for such things, I chanted, and after some rounds, the effect of maya reduced and went away and I felt very blissfull and enthusuastic, upto such an extent that a friend of mine commented, "Are you on caffiene?"

Due to Gurudev's instruction and teaching I realized that, never stop chanting the holy name, whatever it is, always try to remember Nitai Gaura, even if it is very difficult make effort to chant and slowly remeberance of Gaura Nitai will come. Only the holy names Nityananda Gauranga and Hare Krishna MM can help as they have all potency to make the most fallen soul to a Vaishnava. Keep on chanting Nityananda Gauranga and Hare Krishna, the more the better :)

And also read, and serve devotees, even if mind is distracted in beginning do it, slowly taste will come by Lord Nityananda Prabhus mercy.
please forgive my mistakes

thank you so much
aspiring to be your humble servant

Glories of Puri Dhaam

By Bhaktiratna Sadhu Swami

Some people consider a difference between Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama and Shri Navadvipa Dhama or Shri Vrindavana Dhama and think that Shri Jagannatha Puri is inferior in some way to Shri Vrindavana or Shri Navadvipa. To destroy their doubts, it is clearly stated in Shri Vaishnava Tantra:

madhura dvaraka lila yah, karoti ca gokule;
nilachala sthitah krishnasta, eva charati prabhuh.

“Each and every sweet and mellowful pastime which is performed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Krishna in Gokula Vrindavana, Navadvipa, Dvaraka, Mathura etc. is performed by the playful Lord in Shri Nilachala Kshetra Jagannatha Puri Dhama without a doubt.”

Shrila Prabhupada confirms this statement of Shri Vaishnava Tantra in his beautiful purport to Shri Chaitanya Charitamrita, Madhya Lila 22.132:

----------------------------

Shrila Narottama dasa Thakura has sung:

shri gauda-mandala-bhumi, yeba jane cintamani, tara haya vrajabhumi vasa

“One who understands the transcendental nature of Navadvipa and its surrounding area, where Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu enacted His pastimes, resides always in Vrndavana.” Similarly, living in Jagannatha Puri is as good as living in Vrndavana. The conclusion is that Navadvipa-dhama, Jagannatha Puri-dhama and Vrndavana-dhama are identical.

Puri Dhaam Glorified in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata

The following verses are originally stated in the Skanda Purana by Lord Krishna Himself to Lord Shiva and have been explained by Shrila Vrindavana Dasa Thakura in Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata, Antya Khanda Chp 2, Verse 366-379 as given below. Please remember these were the great glories of Puri Dhama even before the Supreme Lord Vrajendranandana Krishna personally came there in His supreme form of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu along with all His eternal associates in creation and resided there for 24 years from 1510 to 1534 AD. So one can imagine how much the already supremely glorious glories of Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama were magnified unlimitedly by the direct presence of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu in Shri Gambhira in Kali Yuga!

In Shri Chaitanya Bhagavata, Antya Khanda, Chapter Two, Lord Krishna Himself shares His most confidential secret to Lord Shiva:

sei sthane amara parama gopya puri ..366..

“Today I will tell you the glories of My supremely confidential and rare Personal Abode of Shri Puri Dhama.”

sei sthana siva, aji kahi toma'-sthane .
se purira marma mora keha nahi jane ..367..

“O Shiva, I will personally tell you the supreme glories of Puri today because no one else knows the essence, secret and full inner glories of Puri Dhama.”

sindhu tire vata-mule 'nilacala' nama .
ksetra-shripurusottama-ati ramyasthana ..368..

“On the banks of the salt-water ocean, at the root of a banyan tree is the My own Holy Abode of Nilachala Kshetra Shri Purushottama Dhama which is most enchanting and beautiful in this whole universe.”

ananta brahmanda kale yakhana samhare .
tabu se sthanera kichu karite na pare ..369..

“When millions of universes are destroyed at the time of the Prakrtika Mahapralaya, or total material annihilation at the end of 100 years of Lord Brahma (our 311 trillion years), the supremely transcendental Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama is not effected or even touched in any way.”

sarva kala sei sthane amara vasati .
pratidina amara bhojana haya tathi .370..

“At every moment I constantly and eternally reside in Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama. And not only that, I personally eat and accept the offerings daily in this abode of Mine.”

se sthanera prabhave yojana dasa bhumi .
tahate vasaye yata jantu, kita, krmi ..371..

sabare dekhaye caturbhuja devagane .
'bhuvanamangala' kari' kahiye ye sthane ..372..

“This personal abode of Mine is 10 yojanas or 80 miles in area in transcendental size. When the demigods from the heavenly planets look down on the earth, they astonishingly see that all the living beings residing in Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama, even the insects, worms and ants, all of them are possessing four transcendental hands holding the conch, disc, lotus and club and the personal opulence of the Lord Himself. That is why this most holy abode of Mine is known as “Bhuvanamangala” or the Abode which purifies and makes the whole world supremely auspicious.”

nidrateo ye sthane samadhi phala haya .
sayane pranama-phala yatha vede kaya ..373..

“All the Vedas state that simply by sleeping in Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama, one gets the transcendental fruit of Samadhi or trance on the form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. And even simply by lying down in Shri Puri Dhama, one effortlessly achieves the unlimited fruits of offering obeisances to the Supreme Lord with devotion.”

pradakshina-phala paya karile bhramana .
katha matra yatha haya amara stavana ..374..

“The Vedas continue to state that simply by wandering in Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama here and there, one gets the infinite fruits of circumambulating the Lord, and simply by speaking any words in Shri Puri Dhama, one achieves the fruits of directly offering glorious prayers to the Lord.”

hena se ksetrera ati prabhava nirmala .
matsya khaileo paya havisyera phala ..375..

“Such is the supreme influence of Shri Kshetra Jagannatha Puri Dhama. Even eating fish in Puri Dhama gives one the fruit of eating sacrifical offerings or prasadam of the Lord.” (Ofcourse this is not a license to do that)

nija-name stha mora hena priyatama .
tahate yateka vaise, se amara sama ..376..

“Since this Holy Abode is the dearest among My most dear Abodes, I have personally given Puri the Name of Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama which contains My own Holy Name of Jagannatha (and Puri means home so it means My own home). Those who simply reside in Shri Puri Dhama become just like Me in all requests.”

se sthane nahika yamadanda-adhikara .
ami kari bhala-manda-vicara sabara ..377..

“My great devotee Yamaraja, the superintendent of Death, does not have the right to even approach anyone residing in Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama. The personal care and maintanence of all those who reside in Puri Dhama is personally done by Me and Me alone.”

hena se amara puri, tahahara uttare .
tomare dilalana sthana rahibara tare ..378..

“ So O Shiva, I will award you a beautiful place north of Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama, so that you can eternally reside near My supremely Holy Abode.”

bhukti-mukti-prada sei sthana manohara .
tatha tumi khyata haiva 'shribhuvanesvara' .."379..

“That enchanting and beautiful place where you will reside will become famous as Shri Bhubaneswar, and it will grant enjoyment and liberation to one and all who approach it.”

suniya adbhuta puri-mahima sankara .
punah shricarana dhari' karila uttara ..380..

“Hearing these most astonishing and splendid glories of Shri Jagannatha Puri Dhama from the mouth of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Krishna Himself. Lord Shiva clasped His lotus feet and spoke as follows.”

Shri Brihad Bhagavatamrita of Shrila Sanatana Goswami: Part 2, Chp 1:

Text 159

daru-brahma jagannatho, bhagavan purusottame
ksetre nilacale ksarar-nava-tire virajate

In Purusottama-ksetra Nilachala Shri Puri Dhama, by the shore of the salt-water ocean, te Lord of the universes Lord Jagannatha-Krishna, is splendidly manifest in a spiritual form of wood.

Shrila Sanatana Gosvami quotes the Padma Purana's description of Lord Jagannatha:

samudrasyottare tire, aste shri-purusottame
purnananda-mayam brahma, daru-vyaja-sarira-bhrt

"On the northern shore of the ocean, in Purusottama-ksetra, the supremely blissful Personality of Godhead Lord Krishna pretends to be made of wood."

The Vishnu Purana explains:

niladrau cotkale dese, ksetre shri-purusottame
daruny aste cid-anando, jagannathakhya-murtina

In the country of Orissa, in Nilacala in Purusottama-ksetra, the spiritual and blissful Personality of Godhead appears as the wooden Deity named Lord Jagannatha."

Text 160

maha-vibhutiman rajyam, autkalam palayan svayam
vyanjayan nija-mahatmyam, sada sevaka-vatsalah

Opulent and powerful, He personally protects and maintains the kingdom of Orissa. He is glorious. He loves His servants.

Enthusiasm Is The Only Support

By Shrila Prabhupada

If one has enthusiasm in the beginning of devotional service, and that enthusiasm does not become cold, then one will never become apathetic, lazy, or distracted in chanting the holy names. Therefore enthusiasm is the only support for all types of devotional service. By enthusiastically performing devotional service one can give up anisthita service in a very short time and thus attain nistha. Therefore Srila Rupa Gosvami has said:

By the awakening of faith, one becomes eligible for devotional service. When this eligiblity is attained, one achieves the association of devotees. By the association of devotees, one is engaged in the execution of devotional service. In the beginning there is no nistha, or firm faith, in that service because various types of anarthas keep crushing the heart. All anarthas are vanquished, however, by performing devotional service with enthusiasm. The more anarthas are vanquished, the more nistha is awakened.

The word sraddha is certainly faith, but enthusiasm is the life of sraddha. Faith without enthusiasm is meaningless. Many people think they have faith in God, but because they have no enthusiasm, their faith has no meaning. Therefore, due to lack of sadhu-sanga, they do not perform devotional service.

There are six principles favorable to the execution of pure devotional service:
(1) utsaha, being enthusiastic;
(2) niscaya, endeavoring with confidence;
(3) dhairya, being patient;
(4) tat-tat-karma-pravartana, acting according to regulative principles [such as sravanam kirtanam visnoh smaranam-hearing, chanting and remembering Krsna];
(5) sanga-tyaga, abandoning the association of nondevotees; and
(6) sato vrtteh, or sadhu-vrtti, following in the footsteps of the previous acaryas.

These six principles undoubtedly assure the complete success of pure devotional service."
