Days for Abstinence
Those who do not always observe Brahmacharya should try to practice abstinence at least during events with specific spiritual significance, such as:
* Ekadashi and the preceding and following days if possible
* Appearance Days of the Lord
* The entire auspicious month of Kartika (and Purushottama Month which comes once in 3 years)
* Disappearance Days of the Great Acharyas
* Other Vaishnava festivals
* Bhagavata-saptaha and other spiritually important events
Abstaining on these Holy Days while meditating on the Holy Names of the Lord will help us to gradually conquer and purify the desire for excessive lusty indulgence, so that we can peacefully relish the unlimited nectar in the Holy Names.
Daaso'smi, BR Sadhu Swami Gaurangapada.
