shr�-narayana uvaca - Shri Naaraayana Rishi said; ekada - one day; ananda-yuktah - happily; ca - and; nanda-gopo - Nanda-gopa; vraje - in Vraja; mune - O sage; dundubhim - dundubhi drum; vadayam asa - had sounded; shakra-yaga-kritodyamah - about to perform a yajna for the demigod Indra.
Shri NaaraayaNa Rishi said: One day the gopa Nanda, intending to offer a yajna to the demigod Indra, had a drummer sound a dundubhi drum.

Nanda proclaimed: All the braahmaNas, kshatriyas, vaishyas and shUdras in this village must devotedly worship the demigod Indra with offerings of yogurt, milk, ghee, buttermilk, butter, molasses, and honey.

Seeing the great sages, braahmaNas, and kings, Nanda rose from his golden throne, and the people of Vraja also rose.

praNamya - bowing; vasayam asa - had sit down; mun�ndra-vipra-bhumipan - the great sages, braahmaNas, and kings; tesham - of them; anumatim - consent; prapya - attaining; tatra - there; uvasa - sat; punar - again; muda - happily.
Nanda bowed before the great sages, braahmaNas, and kings, gave them comfortable sitting places, and, with their permission, happily sat down himself.

Then Nanda respectfully asked a hundred expert braahmaNa cooks to begin cooking under the tent.

A thousand goats, a hundred buffaloes, and a hundred thousand sheep were also brought.

A hundred rhinoceroses were also brought. The animals were sprinkled with water and protected by guards.

Then Lord KrishNa personally came, accompanied by the gopa boys and by powerful Lord Balaraama, who carried His plow.

Then the braahmaNas, kshatriyas, vaishyas, sages, and gopas happily bowed down before the Lord and gave Him a seat on a jewel throne.

uvasa - sat; svarNa-p�the - on the golden throne; sa - and; tesham - of them; madhye - in the midst; jagat-patih - the master of the universes; yatha - as; babhau - shone; sharac-candro - an autumn moon; jyotisham - of stars; antare - in; ca - an; khe - the sky.
Then Lord KrishNa, the master of the universes sat on the golden throne. He was like an autumn moon shining in the midst of many splendid stars.

stutva - offering prayers; tam - to Him; ushus - stayed; te - they; sarve - all; jagatam - of the universes; �shvaram - the master; param - supreme; svecchamayam - independent; guNat�tam - beyond the modes of nature; jyot�-rupam - splendid; sanatanam - eternal.
Everyone stood up and offered prayers to Lord KrishNa, the splendid and eternal Supreme Personality of Godhead, whose desires are all fulfilled and who is beyond the modes of nature.

In one of Brahmaa's days and nights 28 Indras live out their lives and die, one after another. Brahmaa lives for 108 years of such days and nights. Still, Brahmaa's entire life is hardly an eyeblink for the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is beyond the modes of material nature. This is a grotesque joke: to worship Indra instead of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

He is freed from birth, death, old-age, disease, and lamentation. Even in dreams he does not see Yamaraaja's messengers or Yamaraaja's abode.

Bowing to Lord KrishNa, Indra departed with his associates. All the people that had stayed under the hill returned to their homes.

Association with Your devotee plants the imperishable seedling of devotional service to You. The raincloud of Your devotee's words waters that seedling and makes it grow.

If one attains that rare direct service and becomes Your servant, he becomes free of all material desires. He conquers fear and a host of troubles.

tapas - austerities; taptam - performed; yada - when; dronas - Drona; t�rthe - at the holy place; ca - and; dharaya - with Dharaa; saha - with; stotram - to praise; tasmai - to him; pura - before; dattam - given; brahmana - by Brahmaa; tat - that; su-durlabham - rare; hareh - of Lord KrishNa; shaD-aksharo - six syylable; mantrah - mantra; kavacam - kavaca; sarva-lakshaNam - all-glorious; iha - here; saubhariNa - by Saubhari; dattam - given; tasmai - to him; tushtena - pleased; pushkare - at Pushkara- tirtha; tad - that; eva - indeed; kavacam - kavaca; stotram - prayer; sa - that; ca - and; mantrah - mantra; su-durlabhah - very rare; brahmaNo - of Brahmaa; amshena - by the partial expansion; munina - by the sage; nandaya - to Nanda; ca - and; tapasyate - performing austerities.
When, accompanied by Dharaa, DroNa performed austerities at a holy place, Brahmaa gave him this difficult to attain prayer, the six-syllable KrishNa-mantra, and the glorious Krishna-kavaca. On this earth Saubhari Muni, who is a partial expansion of Brahmaa, again gave the same prayer, mantra, and kavaca to Nanda, who was
performing austerities.

mantram stotram ca kavacam
ishta-devo gurus tatha
ya yasya vidya prac�na
na tam tyajati nishcitam
mantram - mantra; stotram - prayer; ca - and; kavacam - kavaca; ishta-devo - worshipable Deity; gurus - guru; tatha - so; ya - which; yasya - of whom; vidya - knowledge; prac�na - ancient; na - not; tam - that; tyajati - abandons; nishcitam - indeed.
One who attains this prayer, mantra, and kavaca, a bona-fide guru, and Lord KrishNa as his worshipable Deity, attains spiritual knowledge that is never lost.

ity evam kathitam stotram
shr�-krishNakhyanam adbhutam
sukhadam mokshadam saram
bhava-bandhana-mocanam
iti - thus; evam - in this way; kathitam - spoken; stotram - prayer; shr�-krishNakhyanam - glorifying Lord KrishNa; adbhutam - wonderful; sukhadam - giving happiness; mokshadam - giving liberation; saram - the best; bhava-bandhana-mocanam - release from the bonds of repeated birth and death.
Thus I have spoken to you this wonderful transcendental prayer glorifying Lord KrishNa, a prayer that brings both happiness and liberation from the bonds of repeated birth and death.
