Re: Chanting during a death incident
Dandavats to the Vaisnavas and Maharaj's
Here we need to use common senses. Just imagine a woman at home a lone and its her time of the month does she not feed and serve her home deitys, and not go to the temple.
The restriction may apply non-Vaisnavas, but as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu there is no restriction on chanting the holy names.
As far as I know Vaisnavas take a bath after the funeral, or going through a graveyard.
I have seen in Nabadwip almost every day the dead are carried along the road, but I don't see devotees running to take bath.
I've done sraddha ceremony and what I was told this is only for non-devotees.
Devotees must emphasis on service to Sri Guru Gauranga alone, and don't allow nothing to disturb your service.
Yes it is sad when there is a death in the family, but we have to be strong in our devotion to Sri Guru Gauranga.
Lets not be sentimental about this even when our dear Vaisnavas disappear we have to focus to save our self from repeated birth and death.
If our non devotees friends want help and advise in such matters then we can help because at such time most turn to God for His help some even become devotees.
All vaisnava literature is no applicable to non-Vaisnavas. So whenever tradition the people are following don't disturb them.
I heard in some vaisnava group of people chanting the Holy name and offering Ganga water, tulasi leaves to non-believers this is an offence. To give the holy name to non-believers is an offence.
10 offences to the holy name. 8th offence Not to give to holy name to non-believers.
If people are Christian, Jews, Buddhists, Hindu, or Muslim etc. Let some one read from their holy book, that way no offence is created.
