Re: Why do we need Guru?

In Sri Bhagavad Gita Lord krsna says

What ever we think at the time of death according to what we desire and what we desirve, that body we will get.

To getrid of our unwanted desires it my take many millions of life times.

lets check this out

                          tad viddhi pranipatena
                             pariprasnena sevaya
                            upadeksyanti te jnanam
                          jnaninas tatt va-darsinah

  go deeper
by taking or reciving initiation  we belong to the Guru our life is not our own

If we are initiated and we do not follow the order of the Guru all sorts of things can happen.

; pariprasnena--by submissive inquiries; sevaya--by the rendering of service

So we need to understand what this means, and meditate on this.

Sevaya service, Submission.

By pleasing the spiritual master Lord krsna is please, but if we displease the guru the soul has no shelter anywhere.

adiksitasya vamoru krtam sarvam nirarthakam pasu-yonim avapnoti diksa-virahito janah

Unless one is initiated by a bona fide spiritual master, all his devotional activities are useless.  A person who is not properly initiated can descend again into the animal species.
Hari-bhakti-vilasa (2.10) further quotes:

ato gurum pranamyaivam sarva-svam vinivedya ca grhniyad Vaisnavam mantram diksa-purvam vidhanatah

It is the duty of every human being to surrender to a bona fide spiritual master.  Giving him everything--body, mind and intelligence--one must take a Vaisnava initiation from him.

Sri Sri Damodarastakam
Eight Prayers to Lord Damodara Whose Belly is Bound by a Rope
including the Sanskrit commentary of Srila Sanatana Gosvami
entitled Dig-Darsini-Tika

One Must Always Be Initiated

     3. In the Agama-stra it is said:  A person born in a brhmaa family who has not yet accepted initiation is not qualified to perform the duties of a brhama. Such a person must accept initiation.
     4.  Such a person who is not yet initiated is not qualified to chant mantras, worship the Deity, or perform other brahminical duties. For his own benefit such a person must accept initiation. This truth is confirmed by the words of Lord iva."
     5. In the Skanda Pura, Krttika-mhtmya, in a conversation of Brahm and Nrada, it is said:  Persons who are not initiated into the path of devotion to Lord Hari and who do not worship Lord Him are like animals. What benefit can they attain by living such a life?"

please Sri Guru Gauranga and the vaisnavas let me not offend no one, and bless my in my spiritual practice
