Re: Gaura-Nitaai: The Most Merciful

Dear Mihir,

Nityananda Gauranga Hare Krishna! Please accept my respectful obeisances!

One thing to understand is that Nitai Gaura are fully capable of giving love of Godhead to offensive souls and there are so many cases where that has happened like Jagai-Madhai. "After granting the most confidential pure love for Lord Krishna to even the offensive chanter, the Holy Names of Nityananda and Gauranga make the offenses run away from the heart within a very short time. Then the heart becomes fully purified and the love increases even more." Chanting Nitai Gaura once destroys all the offenses one has committed in unlimited sins and lifetimes.

A person may be committing offenses due to ignorance. But if he is honest in his chanting without hypocrisy, then he will get the special mercy of Nitai Gaura as mentioned in Navadvipa Dham Mahatmya very quickly. Honesty and straightforward simplicity is most important. Nityananda Gauranga will give love of Godhead to an honest person overlooking his limitations, but they are not obliged to give prema to cheaters. For such people, cheating mentality goes first before love of Godhead can enter.

But if a person thinks, "I will do all offenses and still chant Nitai Gaura.", then that is a hypocritical attitude and it could lead to bad consequences like Vaisnava aparadhas and subsequent falldown. The chanter should not use Nitai Gaura's mercy like a contract business as an excuse for committing further aparadhas, "I will sin and commit offences as I like and at the end of the day Nitai Gaura will remove everything. So I can offend without consequences." That is very dangerous and invites falldown very near.

Offensive mentality is worst thing, more dangerous than offenses. Fearing that this cheating mentality will arise, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Prabhupada has used aparadha to mean offensive mentality. Ignorance can be excused, but not cheating. Nitai Gaura won't give love of Godhead to a cheater. First cheating has to go. If we don't make an effort than the Lord will have to get rid of it the hard way and that is not very pleasant. It's very painful and I beg everyone not to let that happen because we will be smashed very hard. That's how it has to be understood according to my experience.

Your unworthy servant,
Srinath
