The ways of the Lord to attract people to Him is inconceivable. He has so many angles of attraction that we never really know what all He uses to attract the conditioned souls to Him. Some people have to hit rock bottom in the deepest regions of hell before they cry out to the Lord, and others are attracted by his opulences, beauty, knowledge, renunciation etc. In my personal case my entrance into spiritual life was via the misleading mayavadi philosophy. At that time I was loaded with proud knowledge but a Vaisnava devotee wiped all my arrogant arguments from the table in one sweep. I became instantly attracted to the Lord. Afterwards I could see how He had attracted me from the very beginning�He is such a good cheater�He knew he couldn�t get me directly and He just cheated me at His lotus feet. His ways are inconceivable.

So I think that the kind of books you mention have sometimes very good insights that sometimes �preps� an ignorant person to be guided to the feet of the Lord.

In our case as, already being (aspiring) devotees, we use those books to utilize the good insights in our efforts to serve the Lord. When you study for instance the psychology of communication you can use those techniques to improve your preaching.
