The Cosmic Math Proves God Exists
Hubble scientists say their mind-boggling picture is like a "core sample" of the universe, made of light instead of Arctic ice. Imagine, the scientists say, that you're looking through an 8-foot-long soda straw, where each galaxy you see is a different distance from the Earth.
Remember, too, that you're looking back in time, as light from a galaxy 13 billion light years away takes 13 billion years to get here. Those 10,000 galaxies are spread both through space and 13 billion years of cosmic history--all packed into a slice of sky just one-tenth of the diameter of the full moon.
So, how many 8-foot-long straws would Hubble have to suck the universe through to taste the entire sky? According to the experts, about 12.7 million. They say the plucky telescope would need about a million years of uninterrupted time to make the images, too.
If each of those 12.7 million straws sucked in another 10,000 galaxies, we'd have about 127 billion galactic neighbors. Some estimates count on only 100 billion galaxies showing up in the census. Others think we'd find five times that.
It's best not to even think about how many stars that is. On a dark night in the country, you can see a few thousand. Yet astronomers guess there are anywhere from 100 billion to 1 trillion stars in our Milky Way galaxy alone. Multiply the low number by 100 billion galaxies and you get at least 10 sextillion stars. That's 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.
The real number could be ten times that. Or a hundred times that. Some NASA experts put the figure at a "zillion." No one knows. Astronomers are used to working with scary numbers, but when it comes to counting the stars in the firmament, most say that counting all the grains of sand from all the deserts and beaches of the world would be easier.
Experts estimate that 10 percent of the Milky Way's 200 to 400 billion stars have planetary systems, and that 30 percent of the stars with planetary systems have more than one planet. So the 300 exoplanets detected so far are a drop in the galactic bucket.
And that's just the Milky Way bucket. As we mentioned earlier this week, some estimates say a universal census would count at least 100 billion galaxies. Those billions of galaxies include billions of billions of stars. Even if only a fraction of those have planetary systems, the number of exoplanets is downright astronomical.
If only this Universe is so inconceivably gigantic according to the scientists with zillions of galaxies, one cannot even imagine the size of the other Universes some of which are millions of time bigger than our Universe (As described in the Pastime of Brahma meeting Lord Krishna). That would be a million multiplied by a zillion which is almost infinite (but inconceivably still finite).
According to the Vedas, our Universe is one of the smallest. There are zillions of other Universes in this material creation. And the material creation is only 1/4th of Lord Gauranga Krishna. The spiritual creation is 3/4th. So the Lord's spiritual creation is unimaginably extensive and variegated with zillions of non-destructible spiritual planets with eternal life (no birth, death, old age and disease). And there is one form (expansion) of Lord Gauranga Krishna who is worshipable Deity of each of those spiritual planets. He is the Lord of all the residents of that planet. Thus, one can imagine how the Supreme Lord assumes zillions of Vishnu Forms to accept the services of each of His devotees according to their specific mood and affection. Let this inconceivable Cosmic Maths which cannot be grasped by our tiny puny brains, strengthen our faith in the Existence and Omniscience of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Gauranga Krishna and make it irrevocable. Thus, instead of trying to become God, we should endeavor to love and please Him by becoming the servant of His servants.
Daaso'smi, BRS Swami Gaurangapada.
