Chanting in Nature
On our travelling sankirtana adventures we spent three nights in a summer place of one of our devotee friends from East Finland. There is no running water, nor other artificial comforts. At 3am the temperature was around 0c but rose to 5c by 7am.
But if you had some warm clothes and heavy woolen chadar, you could chant your Japa on the shore of the nearby lake. We got some realisations about the mode of goodness - at the same time it is very pleasant, no distractions, just some occasional distant sounds of birds, mind is peaceful, air is full of prana and you are very alert. But at the same time sattva doesn't mean spiritual, even if you are alert and in one sense you are absorbed in hearing, you are not necessarily really remembering Krsna.
I could see the difference for chanting in the temple or in the front of Tulasi devi, there was not that stimulation for remembering Krsna. The temple is the best place for chanting but if there is opportunity, one can try chanting japa in the nature too.
